Visual Arts at Oak Park Primary
At Oak Park Primary School, our Visual Arts program is designed to ignite the spark of creativity and nurture the imaginative minds of our students. Grounded in the Victorian Curriculum, our approach empowers students to explore various artistic mediums, develop critical thinking skills, and express their unique perspectives. Through a combination of hands on activities, collaborative projects, and exposure to diverse art forms, we aim to cultivate a lifelong passion for the arts while fostering personal growth and self expression. All year levels (F-6) participate in a weekly one hour class with our Specialist Visual Arts teacher.
Curriculum The Victorian Curriculum provides a comprehensive framework for the teaching and learning of Visual Arts. It emphasises the development of essential knowledge, understanding, and skills across three interconnected strands: Explore and Express Ideas, Practices, and Present and Perform. These strands facilitate the exploration of art making techniques, art history, cultural perspectives, and the development of artistic skills. Encouraging Exploration and Experimentation At Oak Park Primary School, we recognise the importance of encouraging students to explore and experiment with their creativity. Through a wide range of activities, students are exposed to diverse artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, 3D printing pen technology and more. This exploration allows them to discover their strengths, interests, and unique artistic voice. Fostering Imagination and Critical Thinking Imagination is at the heart of the Visual Arts program at Oak Park Primary School. We believe that nurturing a child's imagination is crucial for their holistic development. Our students are encouraged to think critically, solve problems, and approach art making with an open mind. They are provided with opportunities to brainstorm ideas, envision possibilities, and translate their thoughts into visually compelling artworks. |
Integration of Technology and Digital Art In today's digital age, we recognise the importance of incorporating technology into the Visual Arts program. Oak Park Primary School provides students with access to digital tools and software that enhance their creative abilities. By integrating technology and digital art forms, we prepare our students for the evolving artistic landscape while fostering digital literacy skills. The Visual Arts program at Oak Park Primary School is committed to unlocking the creative potential and imaginations of students. Through the Victorian Curriculum's framework, we provide an inclusive and stimulating environment that encourages exploration, imagination, and critical thinking. By integrating diverse artistic mediums, technology, collaboration, and community engagement, we empower our students to develop their unique artistic voices, foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts, and embark on a journey of self discovery and personal growth. |
