Visual Arts at Oak Park Primary
Visual Art stimulates the imagination. It develops self-esteem and encourages openness and understanding towards the opinion of others. Learning within the Visual Arts Program, students learn to enjoy and take pride in the Art that they create. This helps to build positive attitudes, not only towards themselves but also towards others. They learn through creative experiences to look at their environment and the world around them and develop a higher sense of perception.Through creative experiences they also develop problem-solving skills and connect visual knowledge to other subjects.
The Visual Art Program aims to enable students to understand that...

Visual Art is connected to all subjects within the school's curriculum. Speaking and listening occur naturally in all aspects of discussion whether done collectively as a whole class or individually. Our students are asked to reflect on their work both verbally and written. Such skill as Space, Measurement, Location, Shape and Pattern are all intterwined as are areas of Science, Health & Physical Education (movement), Technology and so on. All these areas compliment and enhance learning within the Art program and vice versa. Children develop confidence to try new skills and in turn apply them to other areas of learning.
Every child is unique in the way that they think, speak and view the world around them. "I am always doing things I can't do, That's how I get to do them." - Picasso |
