Visual Arts at Oak Park Primary

At Oak Park Primary School, our Visual Arts program is designed to ignite the spark of creativity and nurture the imaginative minds of our students. Grounded in the Victorian Curriculum, our approach empowers students to explore various artistic mediums, develop critical thinking skills, and express their unique perspectives. Through a combination of hands on activities, collaborative projects, and exposure to diverse art forms, we aim to cultivate a lifelong passion for the arts while fostering personal growth and self expression. All year levels (F-6) participate in a weekly one hour class with our Specialist Visual Arts teacher.

Curriculum
The Victorian Curriculum provides a comprehensive framework for the teaching and learning of Visual Arts. It emphasises the development of essential knowledge, understanding, and skills across three interconnected strands: Explore and Express Ideas, Practices, and Present and Perform. These strands facilitate the exploration of art making techniques, art history, cultural perspectives, and the development of artistic skills.

Encouraging Exploration and Experimentation
At Oak Park Primary School, we recognise the importance of encouraging students to explore and experiment with their creativity. Through a wide range of activities, students are exposed to diverse artistic mediums such as painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, digital art, 3D printing pen technology and more. This exploration allows them to discover their strengths, interests, and unique artistic voice.

​Oak Park Primary School Biennial Art Show – A Celebration of Creativity
Every second year, when Oak Park Primary School is not buzzing with the excitement of our whole-school concert, our community comes together for another much loved tradition — the Oak Park Primary School Biennial Art Show. Held in the school gymnasium, this vibrant event celebrates the imagination, creativity, and artistic growth of our students from Foundation through to Grade 6.
The Art Show transforms the gym into a colourful gallery, with every student proudly exhibiting three or more artworks created during their Visual Arts lessons. Themed displays, mixed media pieces, sculpture, painting, drawing, and collaborative works all come together to showcase the incredible range of skills and artistic expression developed throughout the year. Families are invited to walk through the space, admire the creativity on display, and enjoy a truly special evening centred around student achievement.
As a school fund-raising event, the night is made even more exciting with silent auctions and raffles, which are always a highlight for families. A delicious selection of refreshments and a sizzling BBQ help create a lively, welcoming atmosphere, turning the evening into both a gallery experience and a community celebration.
The Biennial Art Show is a wonderful opportunity for students to shine, for families to connect, and for our school community to appreciate the outstanding creativity that flourishes at Oak Park Primary School.
