Meet the Teacher Wednesday 21st February – Bookings Available
Bookings can now be made for our 'Meet the Teacher' evening on Wednesday 21st February (Week 4) via the COMPASS app. These are different to regular parent/teacher interviews as the discussion will centre around exchanging information concerning your child, including such aspects as medical, social or emotional issues. It is also a window of opportunity for you to get to know the teacher better. Please be aware that the time allocation for these meetings is only 10 minutes. This is a normal school day for your child (9:00am-3:30pm), but conference bookings can be made from 2:30pm on that day. Teachers will be released early to start conferences by the leadership team and available Specialist teachers and CRTs. Please note: If your child has had the classroom teacher before and you do not feel an interview is necessary, there is no need to book a time. Interviews will be on-site, in your child’s classroom. Specialist teachers will be available in the library if you would like to meet with them (from 3:30pm). No scheduled appointment is necessary, just turn up to the library. Foundation parents do not need to book a time as they are meeting the classroom teacher during their scheduled EOI interview. Please contact the office if you have difficulty making a booking. We can assist you over the phone. We like to take this opportunity to ensure everyone can access and use Compass effectively, and therefore will not be making bookings on your behalf. Bookings will close on the Tuesday 20th Feb and cannot be made on the day. School Council Nominations A potential election is to be conducted for members of the School Council of Oak Park Primary School, provided there are more candidates than vacancies. Parents on School Councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. Each year, approximately half of the School Council retires to allow new members to become involved. The school requires 3 parent members, 2 Staff members and 1 community member (usually a representative from our Parents and Friends Association) to fill vacancies left by outgoing members of School Council. Nomination forms may be obtained from the office, are attached to a recent Compass newsfeed (as Form 3) or please email Michael if interested and I’ll send you a copy. Nomination forms must be lodged by 4:00pm on Friday 16th February 2023. For those self-nominating, please also provide a short statement (no longer than 150 words) about yourself and the skills or interests you bring to School Council. If an election is required, the ballot will close at 4.00 pm on Friday 1st March 2023. Volunteers for Open Streets
After some engaging and successful Open Street events in 2023, we’re hoping to continue this process using parent volunteers and some training provided by Merri-Bek Council. Open Streets compliments our other Ride & Stride initiatives, like Tag On, which we will be participating in this year to address other barriers to active travel.
We need 6 volunteers from the community to make these potential events a reality, with only a short training course required and provided at the school. If you’re interested in supporting Open Streets as a volunteer, please email the school office to register your interest. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal School Assembly

Oak Park Primary School has a wellbeing dog on site, our beautiful Westie, Zoe. As Zoe is being trained, we request that anyone coming on to the school grounds, does not bring a dog onsite. Even if your dog is on a leash and under your control, your dog unfortunately is not as welcome as you are! School Crossing
We ask all families and children to ensure they cross the road at the designated School Crossing. The crossings are supervised, and before and after school is a very busy time for traffic. With regards parking, please do not park on or near the school crossing as this is dangerous and causes a blind spot for anyone crossing. There are also parking inspectors around the school at varying times, and you will be fined. School Crossing

In Summit Ave, there is a school drive through for drop off & pick up. This is one way only and we ask all families to observe the council signs. Please do not park in this area waiting for your child as it causes much frustration and hold up of traffic. If your child is not there when you drive through, you will have to exit and drive back around to enter again. This area is supervised after school by staff. Upon exiting, you may only turn left onto Summit Ave. For safety reasons, we would ask you to not allow your children to run through this area either. Thank you Code Camp
Specialist
Science Hello! I’m Stephanie the specialist science teacher and I am very excited to be welcoming the junior school students (Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2) into the science room this term. Science for the junior school will be all about curiosity and making sense of our world through observation and firsthand experiences. In term one, we will begin our unit of study called “Weather in my world”. In this unit the junior science students will have hands-on opportunities to identify distinctive characteristics of the weather, develop understanding about the air, sun and wind and increase their knowledge of how weather affect their daily lives. Students will be encouraged to make discoveries, build connections as well as learn how to pose and respond to questions, and make simple predictions. In weeks 1 and 2, our junior scientists have been hard at work, beginning our weather unit and becoming ‘Weather Watchers’. Students discussed some important weather terminology and talked about the kinds of weather they have experienced. The junior scientists have shared what they know about seasonal weather, and daily weather changes. They created their own weather symbols and shared their ideas and observations. We have been lucky to have some very changeable Melbourne weather that has led to some wonderful conversations! Great work this week junior science stars! Lunch Orders
