Car Park Safety The school's staff car park is still being used by parents for student drop-offs and pickups. We kindly request that families refrain from using the school car park for these purposes. As the number of parking spaces available for staff is limited, we ask for cooperation in utilizing the designated drop-off zone located on Summit Avenue. Additionally, we would like to remind families to use the pedestrian gate adjacent to the staff car park when entering the school, rather than crossing through the staff car park before or after school hours. Student Agency – School Toilet Project Our Junior School Council are interested in a cosmetic makeover of our main school toilets, after being inspired by The School Toilet Project. This included conducting a survey with Year 3-6 students and using this information to plan some deep cleaning, painting and wall decals to make our toilets a more hospitable place for students. The project suggests that if students are empowered to improve the appearance of these spaces, they will also reduce the amount of minor vandalism and mess caused by students. The colours selected by students include turquoise and navy for the boys, and peach and purple for the girls. Students have also put forward their fun and inspirational quotes for the cubicle doors, ranging from the cheeky “Best Seat in the House” to more earnest “Be the best person you can be”. Trevor our maintenance man will support by painting the boys toilets, some parent volunteers will be sought to paint the larger space of the girls toilets during the holidays. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal Assembly Timetable - Term 3

Jane has been a wonderful teacher at OPPS for nearly 20 years. Her contribution to the students and community will be acknowledged at our final assembly for the term, Friday 15th September at 1:30pm. Jane will be in attendance for us all to say our farewells. We look forward to seeing you all there! 2024 Enrolments

Congratulations to all students that participated in the challenge this year. It was amazing to see how many books some students managed to read!
Footy Colours Day
We will be celebrating the end of term (Friday 15th September) with a Footy Colours Day. Students can wear sports team colour of their choice, regardless of the day being called Footy Colours Day. Food orders closed today, Friday 8th September. Please remember, there are no canteen orders tomorrow due to Footy Colours Day. Wellbeing
In the junior school we recognise that students often need a break to clear their mind and refresh their brain for them to be ready to learn. To assist with this, teachers all over the school use ‘Brain Breaks’ in different ways and at different times to re-engage our students.
Below you will find a selection of pictures, showing our brain breaks. You will see how much fun students are having and the positive engagement with their peers that comes from these sorts of break. Wellbeing Lunchtime Clubs
Our school runs free daily lunchtime clubs for students who would like to attend. Clubs vary from quiet relaxing activities such as gardening or library, to full energy clubs like karaoke or student-run sports clubs. Students can start in a club any week and there is no pressure to attend the club regularly. Your child can change clubs each week until they find one that suits them! Please discuss the Lunchtime Club timetable with your child. Daily announcements are made so students know which clubs are running every day. School Fang Run
Dear Families, We’re holding a School Fang Run as the major fundraising event this year, and Friday 8 September is our launch day! The event will be held on Thursday 2 November. We are really hoping to raise $30,000 for the school, which will pay for a new audiovisual system for the gym. Keep your eyes peeled for the sponsorship forms and parent letter which will be sent home with your child. These contain more information about the day. Once you have the sponsorship form, you should sign up for a Student Profile Page at schoolfunrun.com.au. You’ll be able to access online fundraising and can win a $20,000 Ultimate Family Package! Students who raise $10 or more will receive a reward, and the more money you raise the better the reward, and the more you help the school! We’re looking for all students to participate and are organising a great day for our community, so we’d love everyone to come down to support the kids. If you have any questions about the Fang Run please contact the School Fun Run Office on 1800 FUN RUN. Thanks for supporting the school and we hope to see you at the event! Codecamp

Physical Education This week in sport we had the winners of the GDPSSA District Athletics carnival travel to Epping on Wednesday to compete in the Inner North Moreland Division championships. It was a lovely sunny day spent hanging out around the track and the students were faced with some challenging competitors – which led to some great battles! Congratulations to all students who fought so hard today. And to the winners who booked a place to the North West Region championships next term. We hope to see you qualify for state! Performing Arts
Inspired by Indigenous dancing, Grade One and two students have been focussing on movements which depict the movements of Australian animals. Students improvised movements for the following-
Accompanied by rhythm sticks these deliberate movements create a focussed atmosphere and incidental dance making began to take place. Students began to silently pair off and movements where shared and explored. It was wonderful for students to show some understanding that dance communicates cultural knowledge. Well done! |
Visual Arts
Hi OPPS Families, Your child(ren) will be bringing some artwork home next week, that they will have planned and made a start on in art classes in Week 10 (the final week of school for Term 3). The artwork is being created for the annual PFA Kids Art Works fundraiser. Student artworks can be scanned and printed onto items such as calendars, diaries, greeting cards, mousepads and sketchbooks. Artworks need to be finished at home and must be returned to David Flint (Art Teacher) in the Art Room by Thursday October 12th (Week 2 Term 4). Order forms that will be distributed to the students also need to be returned to classroom teachers by Thursday October 12th. If you require additional order forms please collect these from the school office. Any order inquiries can be directed to the PFA at the email address below. [email protected] This is an annual fundraising initiative that has been quite successful in the past. A portion of the money generated by Kids Artworks orders will be reimbursed to the school, assisting with funding programs and initiatives for the 2024 school year. We highly value the continued support shown by the OPPS community for this fundraising initiative. David Flint (Visual Arts Teacher) & The OPPS PFA ‘Picasso Inspired Bulldogs jumper'
Science
This week in the Science room our Senior Scientists have completed their animal adaptations project – creating their own unique animal. They had to complete a fact file about their conceived animal including information such as - habitat, body coverings, diet, prey and predators, life cycle and details about the distinctive adaptations they invented for their animals. Students added an illustration of their animals this week and demonstrated their creative and artistic skills. Our senior scientists should be very proud of their hard work and creativity. Their work is thoughtful and demonstrates a great understanding of how living things have structural features as well as adaptations that help them to survive in their environment. Team Kids
