Curriculum Day Reminder – Final Day of Term Tuesday - December 20th. I hope families enjoyed the opportunity for a 4-day weekend, last Monday (31st) was a Curriculum Day to assist teachers in preparation for Semester 2 reports. We have one final Curriculum Day this year, on Tuesday December 20th, so please flag this in your calendars. Our final day of the school year will be Monday the 19th of December. Year 5/6 Swimming Program – Free in 2022 This week and next week our Year 5/6 students will attend their swimming program at the Oak Park Aquatic Centre. We were able to provide a free program this year, due to unspent government funding from 2021 and the ability to walk to the centre (sadly with some rainy weather this week). Thanks to all the parent volunteers that support classes to walk safely to the pool and teachers for their commitment to the program. Swimming is a vital and potentially life saving skill, we’ll seek feedback from teachers, students and parents to plan for a 2023 program. Canteen Closed on Friday 11th November. Next week, due to personal reasons, unfortunately our canteen will be closed for one day on Friday 11th November. The community has been really positive about our new on-site service, so apologies for the inconvenience the one-day closure will cause. We will further promote the one-day closure via Compass next week to avoid any confusion. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal Dogs Connect
2023 Foundation Transition
The second transition event for our 2023 Foundation students will be this Friday the 4th of November at 9:15am until 10:45am. Students will be rotating to a new classroom and will be with a different teacher for this session. Transition groups will be put up on the whiteboard outside the building. The activities will be taking place in the Early Years Building once again. There will also be a parent and caregivers information session taking place in the Multipurpose Room after you drop your child off at the classroom. Please note, this date has changed from the 18th November. A second-hand Uniform stall will be held for new 2023 FOUNDATION parents only, on Meet the Teacher day Wednesday 14th December from 9.30 to 10.30. Grade 6 Graduation
Grade 6 Graduation will be happening on Thursday 15th December. More details will follow in the coming weeks. Premier's Reading Challenge
Congratulations to all of the students who completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year. This year, 16 students altogether read and logged the required number of books and will receive a certificate from the Premier of Victoria. Out of those students, the top ten will also receive a special Premier’s Reading Challenge Champion badge to congratulate them for reading well above the required number of books. Our top student this year read a whopping 194 books! What a phenomenal achievement! You're invited to join us at assembly to congratulate the students who completed the challenge and find out who our ten reading champions are this year. Grades 3-6 received their certificates at Senior Assembly last week and Grades F-2 will receive their certificates at Junior Assembly this week. Lunch Orders
Please note, on Friday 11th November there will be no canteen available for lunch orders. Lost Property
There have been some watches in our lost property for quite a while. If any of these belong to your child, please collect from the office. Carols Picnic Night
SAVE THE DATE! On the 1st of December you are invited to our annual Christmas Picnic Night. It’s been a few years since we have been able to have this event (last year we ended up filming the songs due to COVID). It’s a lovely night to bring a picnic, meet other families from our community and watch students sing some Christmas themed songs in the glorious summer sunshine. It’s always a fun night! Performing Arts
The Australian Girls’ Choir is a great place for your daughter to extend her vocal abilities as an extra-curricular activity. Some of our students attend and really enjoy the experience and meeting new friends, please read the following information regarding Open Days this November. Physical Education
This week in PE we have the students in Grades 5/6 heading to the pool to compete their 2 week swimming program. Fingers crossed that the weather remains nice and calm for the daily walks to the venue! In other news, our All-Star Boy and Girls basketball teams are heading to Mill Park for the Regional Hoop Time Championships! If our teams qualify for the finals at this event, we also qualify for the State Championships! In the past, Regional Hoop Time has led to some dramatic finishes- buzzer beaters, questionable referee calls and a lot of passion and emotion. I will hopefully have some good news to share with the community next week! Visual Arts

If you’re looking for something artsy to do with your kids for free over the Summer break and into Autumn, visit NGV Children’s Gallery. This looks like lots of fun! NGV Kids presents Julian Opie: Studio for Kids, an interactive exhibition for children and families developed in collaboration with Julian Opie, one of Britain’s leading contemporary artists. Inspired by Opie’s London-based studio, where the artist is surrounded by his art collection, visitors to Julian Opie: Studio for Kids are invited to create portraits in an inspiring studio setting featuring displays of the artist’s art works selected from the NGV Collection. Focusing on drawing, observation and portraiture, visitors of all ages are introduced to Opie’s techniques and processes when creating their own portraits. Using a custom-designed digital interactive that relates to Opie’s recollection of looking into a mirror and carefully tracing his reflection, children can observe their image on screen, and experiment with line, colour and shape to produce a digital self-portrait in the manner of the artist. Julian Opie: Studio for Kids is generously supported by Spencer Ko and Taylor Fletchett. OPPS Students finish 4th at Interschool Chess Competition! On Wednesday October 26th, a group of 12 students from OPPS competed in an interschool chess competition at Coburg North Primary School involving 126 players from 10 different schools. The OPPS team finished in 4th place, only half a point behind 3rd and only 1 point behind 2nd! The team score is made up from the best 6 individual scores from a school. While OPPS didn't win a school prize, 3 OPPS players won individual prizes: Lewis 3/4P won the medal for 1st Under 9's player, while Oscar 1/2M won the medal for 3rd Under 9's. Oscar's score was good enough to win 1st in the Under 7's but he received the higher medal of the two. Charvi FH won the medal for 1st Under 7's player. These three players have big futures and will keep improving too! Although their scores weren't quite high enough to win medals, both Cagan 6D and Saraansh 6D finished in =7th place with 5.5 points each. All players played 7 games and here are the final results of the OPPS players. 5.5: Cagan 6D 5.5: Saraansh 6D 5.0: Lewis 3/4P 4.5: Santiago 5C 4.0: Oscar 1/2M 4.0: Charvi FH 4.0: Adem 5M 3.0: Stephanie 1/2H 3.0: Santiago 1/2A 3.0: Leo 3/4S 3.0: Lachlan 6D 3.0: Marlo 1/2H Thank you to all the parents who brought their kids along for the day, and a special thank you to Danilo (Santiago and Leo's dad) who helped me out on the day too!
