Principal's Column
Japanese returns to Oak Park! I’m pleased to announce we have developed a great plan for including Japanese within classrooms for Term 2 and 3 in 2022. Our previous Japanese Teacher Melissa Ly will develop weekly lessons with supporting presentations for Junior School, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 – which will be delivered by classroom teachers. It is a great opportunity for our classroom teaching staff to further understand the language and a wonderful continuation of the program – considering the difficulty faced when advertising for language teachers. We have also established a Japanese Community of Practice to continue links with our sister school (Ritsumeikan) and develop some events during 2022. School Review Our final day of our school review was Wednesday March 30th and was a positive look at all the wonderful achievements across the last strategic plan. Our external reviewer and challenge partners assisted with setting new targets and considering the best sources of data to track further improvement at Oak Park. We look forward to sharing our new targets and goals for the next Strategic Plan in around a month, once we receive the written report which outlines the goal and Key Improvement Strategies for the next four years at Oak Park. Daylight Savings Reminder Daylight Savings Usually daylight savings ends while we are on holidays, however this year it occurs next weekend before the term break. Remember to put your clocks back an hour Saturday night so that you are on time for Sunday. Enjoy the extra hour sleep in. Last Day of Term – Friday 8th April It has been wonderful having our students back onsite this term. Term 1 has been a slightly longer term than previous years and we break for the term vacation on Friday 8th April at 2:00pm. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal Easter Raffle

Grade 1/2s have been busy identifying and making patterns in Maths. Have a look at our beautiful pattern designs! 1/2F have been busy writing recounts! Last week 1/2F went outside with 1/2B and played with a big parachute on the school oval. This was so much fun we then wrote about it, to try to capture these special memories of school. Students then spent the week revising their recount – drafting, editing and publishing their writing! Here are some published pieces from 1/2F – and more are on display in our window, feel free to come past and take a look! We hope you enjoy hearing about all the great things we did at school!

This Friday will mark the conclusion of the 2022 Summer inter school sport fixture for the Glenroy District. Oak Park’s cricket team were lucky enough to qualify for the grand final against a very strong opponent in St. Thomas More. The game is scheduled to take place this Friday at 9:30am at Martin Reserve. We are the reigning champions and are hoping to go back to back! Also a special shoutout to all students who participated in interschool sport this term, it has been a pleasure witnessing you compete with such enthusiasm and sportsmanship. I am excited to see where our Winter season will take us! I will hopefully have some positive news to update you all with next week. Go Oak Park! Performing Arts
Over the last few weeks Grade 3/4 students have been creating group dances. Each class voted for their own music and as a grade created movements for the chorus. Small groups then created their own dance sequences during the verses. Groups focussed on dance formations, timing and most importantly working as team! Groups shared their dance sequences with their peers and celebrated the successes of the group. Dance Club: Dance Club is touring the school! Keeping in mind that the playgrounds are still in separate cohorts during lunchtime Dance Club is getting creative and turning up at different areas each Friday. So far, we have visited the Grade 1/2’s on the Tiger Turf, the Grade 3/4 and 5/6’s on the oval and this week we will be seeing Foundation students near the sandpit!
Students can request a dance song from DJ Crayon (AKA Cagan-Performing Arts) or learn the dance moves from Isla (Performing Arts Captain). See you on Friday! Visual Arts
Students from Grade 1-6 have been participating in Art lessons with a Japanese focus to assist the students in learning some new Japanese words (Sakura – Cherry Blossom, Nishikigoi – Carp or Koi and Uchiwa – Fan). Kanji symbols have also been studied in these classes for each of the new Japanese words introduced. The students have also shown their creativity when producing some amazing artworks. Below are examples of what the students have been working on during their art classes in Weeks 9 and 10. I’m looking forward to seeing the final product from each year level involved by the end of Term 1. Sayonara! |
