Happy Easter and Enjoy the Break We extend our warmest wishes to all who celebrate the blessed occasion of Easter, whether it be for its religious significance or the delightful tradition hunting for chocolate eggs. May your long weekend be joy filled. As we gear up for an action-packed Term 2, brimming with exciting curriculum, thrilling extracurricular activities and school reports, we implore you to make the most of the upcoming school holidays. Use this precious time to rejuvenate your energy and unwind with your loved ones. School returns on Monday April 15th, look forward to seeing you all then! Staff Professional Learning Focus for Term 2 – Mathematics Our Annual Implementation Plan outlines the crucial objective of maximising learning growth for all students, particularly in the areas of literacy and numeracy. To achieve this, it is essential that our staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively differentiate instruction and promote problem-solving abilities in mathematics, thereby catering to the diverse learning needs of our students. In the coming weeks, our staff will participate in workshops and training sessions focused on differentiation and problem-solving in mathematics. These sessions will provide practical strategies and resources to support teachers in implementing evidence-based instructional practices that cater to the diverse needs of our students. We thank our teachers and Mathematics Curriculum Team for your continued support as we work together to empower every student to reach their full potential. Open Streets – A great start to our parent and staff supported event We had a wonderful start to our parent and support supported Open Street event in Summit Ave on Wednesday. Both the morning and afternoon sessions were well attended and enjoyed by families and students. The ‘Thanks a Latte’ coffee van was well patronised and staff enjoy their caffiene boost in the final week. Thanks to Thomas, Prateek, Gautam and Melanie for their support and the crew at Merri-Bek Council. We have three more events planned for the year and look forward to bigger and better turn outs in the future. |

We have been learning all about patterns in Maths and showed our learning last week by making fruit skewer patterns. They were devoured by the Foundation students at fruit break! We were so lucky this morning to have a visit from someone with floppy ears and a fluffy tail! After discovering footprints and a letter in the Foundation area, we went outside for an Easter egg hunt. Thank you to our Year 6 buddies for helping us make our baskets.
We wish you a very happy holiday break Foundation students and families. Grade 1/2 Incursion
To conclude our Inquiry unit this term, the Grade 1 and 2 students attended a Team Building Incursion at school on Friday 22nd March. Students worked on fundamental social skills such as getting along, listening to, and understanding that others may see things differently. Effective communication, support, and encouragement was explored, with students identifying and reflecting how words and actions can impact others. Students rotated through four foundational activities that foster these skills.
Grade 1 Inquiry
In Inquiry this term, the Grade 1s have been learning about what it means to be collaborative, discuss their emotions and what makes them unique during our Term 1 unit ‘Feelings and Friends’. To conclude our learning, students were asked to identify and write about the best part of themselves and how/why it makes them special. Our activity was based on the mentor text ‘The Best Part of Me’ by Wendy Ewald. Students explored working through the Writer’s Process where they planned their ideas using a graphic organiser, drafted their initial piece and published their final work. Have a look and some of their work and what makes each of them special and unique! Grade 2 News
Thank you to all our families for coming along to our Inquiry Expo. The students were very proud to share their work from our unit studying the Personal & Social Capability of the Victorian Curriculum. Physical Education News
Tuesday 26th March Jesse, Aiden and Liam attended the State School State trials for football (Aussie rules). The top football players in u12 across the northwest metro area came together for a series of football games and experienced expert football coaching. The experience was very positive and the boys should be very proud of how they played and represented Oak Park Primary School. District cross country
We have the upcoming District Cross Country Competition on Wednesday, May 15th @ Boeing Reserve where students from grades 4-6 will compete against local schools in the area. To qualify for the District competition, we must rank each student in their respective age group from 1st place to 10th place. In the lead-up to this event, we thought it would be a good idea to bring back our very own local OPPS Cross Country event at school for all students in grades 3-6. This will help us to rank the students and also give them an experience Some details about the event: Date: TBA Distances:
