Reach Out Boxes
As part of our strategy to further support wellbeing at Oak Park, we are pleased to announce the launch of our ‘Reach Out’ boxes in every classroom. The ‘Reach Out’ box is designed to give students a chance to communicate with all teachers in school about any wellbeing concern they might not have disclosed during a busy school day. We have designed this box, so all boxes are the same colour and shape, therefore easily identified around the school.

Students simply write their name on a piece of paper and place it inside the box. Teachers will check these regularly and follow up with each student at an appropriate moment. The ultimate aim is to ensure that every child has multiple opportunities to seek support from a trusted adult when required.

Thanks to our Wellbeing Community of Practice for developing and implementing this strategy across Oak Park Primary School.

Professional Practice Day - Thanks
Thanks to all the families for supporting our teachers by bringing students up to school for their reading assessment last Monday. It was a very productive day and really supported our staff to best prepare for Semester 1 reports. This format for a Professional Practice Day was a Department of Education and Training requirement to support teacher workload, without the need for multiple casual replacements teachers (CRTs).

We appreciate not all families were able to bring students into school during a student free day or fit into the limited timeslots, so any student not assessed on Monday will complete their assessment during the usual school schedule.

Sausage Sizzle Success!

Thanks to every community member that purchased a sausage from the school during the recent federal election. It was a sell out with 50+ kg of sausages sold on the day. We really appreciate the support and a massive thanks to the Parents and Friends Association and Kate Dyer for arranging students to support.

Kind regards,
Michael Gill

Grade 1/2 News
On Tuesday 24th of May the 1/2 students had a very exciting first excursion to the Melbourne Zoo!
1/2B loved seeing all the animals and exploring the Zoo Classroom.

1/2F had a great time at the Education Workshop, looking at science in the natural world. It was so fun to play with new equipment and make predictions and observations, and then try to explain what we had seen! We also loved seeing the giraffes and elephants and feeding the owls!

Physical Education
Last Thursday 19th of May our cross country team competed at Boeing Reserve amongst the other schools Glenroy District. We were blessed with sunny and mild conditions compared to the regular winter showers. This led to a great energy and vibe amongst the competitors. It was so awesome to see every single student giving this gruelling event a red hot crack and I am so proud of all their efforts!

Overall we were very successful on the day, to qualify for the next round of Divisional cross country participants had to finish in the top 6 of their age groups. We had at least one student qualify in all but one race, with Chase missing out by 2 places in the under 12 boys. Harper and Grace finished 5th and 6th in the under 10 Girls, followed by Jesse and Harvey who managed to finish 1st and 3rd respectively in the 10 Boys. In the under 11 age group we had Naida finish in 6th place while Ruben finished 2nd and Zayden in 6th. Isla also managed to qualify in 6th place for the under 12 girls.

I’d also like to thank all the parent helpers who assisted and supported on the day. We couldn’t have done it without you! The next round will take place Wednesday 1st June at Banyule Flats. Stay tuned.
Concert Theme Announcement!
All the students have been waiting with anticipation for the announcement of the concert theme for this year, and the wait is almost over!

Today at the end of assembly the senior students will be hearing the news so come along for the excitement or be prepared to be told as soon as school is over!

The teachers can’t wait to share the news and we know the kids will be excited!
