Hi all! This week we played against Greenvale Jets. We have great news to share with you. We defeated them 36 to 0 and also we were undefeated, top of the ladder, all season and have qualified for the finals! We won’t have to play a game this week as we came top of the ladder. So in two weeks we will play our next match. Xavier, having his best game all season but his first quarter was outstanding work because he managed to put a score on the board. Swaroop, a strong kid who holds his position and gets it back into our 50 with a huge kick that leads to a goal. Wish us luck for the finals. :) Book Week Parade

Congratulations once again to Abdul and the under 12 boys who start their finals campaign next week. Thanks Performing Arts
Grade 3/4 students are grabbing their passports and dancing their way around the world! Cultural dance is an excellent way for our students to gain an understanding of different cultures and why and how people dance. This week Grade 3/4 Dance students have been learning about the history of Bush Dancing from the earliest colonisation of Australia. The dances are mainly based on the traditional folk dances of the UK, Ireland and central Europe. Students learnt the history of the dance and worked together to complete the dance sequences to the well-known Australian song ‘Bound for South Australia’. Can you remember how to Do Si Do? Perhaps your child can show you this week! Science News
In Science this week the grade 5 and 6 students have engaged in another experiment experience. Our learning objectives this week were to understand the difference between a hypothesis and a prediction, as well as discovering the densities of different liquids. Students worked in small groups to complete a ‘Lava Lamp’ experiment. Students were challenged to work more independently this week and be more responsible for their own equipment and progression through the experiment. It was a very popular lesson, and the senior scientists had some fantastic questions, observations, and reflections Here is how to make y our own ‘Lava Lamp’ at home.

Stephanie Japanese News
The junior school have made a wonderful start in Japanese this semester! The students have been very excited to be learning about Japanese language and culture and are looking forward to building on their knowledge. We have had lots of fun learning how to read and say body parts and are really enjoying learning how to sing ‘Heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ in Japanese. The students have also been matching body parts to their names in Romaji and Hiragana and are doing a great job! If you would like to practice them at home, we have been using this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aJ7dzeB3Ro. Students have also really enjoyed finding out how to say and write their names in Japanese. Students have found out that there are different sounds in Japanese language and some people’s names sound the same while others change to match the Japanese sounds. It would be great if you could ask your children and see if they can remember how to say their name in Japanese and if it changes in any way. Natalie The Great Book Swap
Drop your pre-loved books off in the foyer near the front entrance to the office area, in readiness for the Great Book Swap on 25th August. |
National Tree Planting Day
This Sunday is National Tree Planting Day! Established in 1996, Planet Ark's National Tree Day has grown into Australia's largest community tree planting and nature care event. The program is a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and give back to their community. At Oak Park Primary we are committed to improving our natural environment and this term we are proud to be collaborating with CERES to plant a Native Wildlife Garden at the school. This will help to expand our native habitats and be a fantastic way for students to learn about how to care for Australian flora and fauna. If you are keen to join in this Sunday. you can use the Planet Ark website to find a community planting event near you. https://treeday.planetark.org/ School Contacts
