Meet the Teacher – Thanks! We extend our thanks to the families who took the time to join us at the 'Meet the Teacher' event this Wednesday. Your presence and active participation fosters stronger bonds and deeper connections between families and our dedicated teaching staff. An additional thank you staff for making the event possible and staying late to support these interactions. Thanks to all the school leaders and Specialist teachers for providing arrangements to supervise students from 2:30 – 3:30. School Community Safety Order Scheme Primary schools are nurturing environments where all individuals deserve a secure and supportive setting for learning and work. Every member of the school community shares responsibility for fostering mutual respect. Unfortunately, there are instances when parents, guardians, or other adults exhibit aggressive behaviour towards staff, students, or fellow community members, jeopardizing their physical and mental well-being, as well as safety. To address such concerns, the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 was amended by the Education and Training Reform Amendment (Protection of School Communities) Act 2021. This amendment established the School Community Safety Order Scheme (Scheme), empowering principals and other designated personnel in Victorian schools to issue School Community Safety Orders (Orders). These Orders serve to intervene and mitigate harmful, threatening, or abusive conduct by parents, guardians, and other adults within the school community. They can also prohibit site access for defined periods of time. Recently we have unfortunately had multiple parents approaching other students directly to resolve issues from our school yard. It is not appropriate for adults to directly approach other students, it is often intimating and not the best way to resolve a conflict. If you have concerns regarding an issue or student behaviour please contact classroom teachers, or Sally and myself for support. We are experienced and follow up concerns in fair and relevant ways that maintain the safety of students. |
Hats – Available at the office, $6
Thank you to the admin staff for arranging the purchase of school hats from our front office for a low price of $6. Sunsmart hats are required for students to be outside while the UV readings are high. This is usually Term 1, part of Term 2 and Term 4. If you’re in need of a school hat, swing by the office to hear Fran’s new favourite catch phrase and sales pitch.
Please note, we remind families to use a blue school hat, as per our uniform policy. This ensures that the hat is sunsmart and avoids any arguments or comparison between student clothing and uniform. Our next reminder to families will be in the form of individual notices to students in support of wearing a safe, sunsmart school hat. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal School Assembly
Permission Forms
A reminder for families to return signed Local Excursion, Media and Technology permission forms that were sent home last week. Your prompt attention to this would be greatly appreciated. 2025 Enrolments

For new families to the school, please check your designated neighbourhood school at www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au You may email Fran with your residential address and an appropriate enrolment form will be forwarded to you. School tours will start in the 2nd term and families who have given an enrolment form will be contacted via email once dates are confirmed. Information will also be in our weekly newsletter as well on our website. All enrolments must be submitted by Friday 26th July. Book Club
Book Club orders have been distributed to students. If you have not received your order, please contact me immediately. I am pleased to report that EVERY grade in the school had students place an order, which could be the first time ever! This has been a very successful issue, with the school now having $350 to purchase new books for the library. BREAKING NEWS!! I met with the Territory Manager of Scholastic this week and he informed me that Oak Park PS is one of the most successful Book Club schools in the area! This is incredible considering the area covers North West Melbourne and the Bendigo region. Well done and thank you to the Oak Park community for supporting the school, Book Club and the library. Your support is greatly appreciated. Michelle Watson Year 6-7 Transition

Science News In Science classes this week our junior scientists have been building their weather vocabulary and becoming more familiar with using interesting weather words. We no longer say it’s a ‘hot day’, we can say it’s ‘boiling’, ‘steaming’ and ‘sizzling’. They have also explored how we experience the weather and different temperatures using our bodies. Our scientists were able to compare the air from heaters, air conditioners, hand-held fans and even our own breath to see how it changes how we feel. It was impressive to see the junior scientists using the scientific method to compare and contrast the different types of air and use temperature specific terminology to describe the differences. You may wish to talk about the daily weather with your child at home, to encourage them to think about and describe the weather in their world. Japanese News
In Japanese this week the 3/4’s have been busy practicing how to introduce themselves. They are learning how to say their name, age and grade level. To practice saying their age and grade level we have been revising Kanji numbers together. Students have been playing a range of Kanji number games and are doing a great job identifying the Kanji characters and reading them aloud. Students are working towards recording each other introducing themselves. Visual Arts News
In recent weeks, Foundation students have been delving into the fundamentals of art, with a special focus on primary colours. Our young artists are learning to master the basics by using red, blue, and yellow to create a vibrant piece of art. Through guided activities, the students are tracing various shapes to form abstract designs or combing shapes to form pictures of various objects such as houses, flowers, aeroplanes, rockets and much more. Foundation Visual Arts classes have been buzzing with energy and enthusiasm. The students' ability to translate their understanding of primary colours into wonderful pieces of artwork has been fantastic to see. Some of the artworks created in the Foundation classes will be on display in the art room windows next week. The next phase of learning for the Foundation students in Visual Arts, will be exploring and using secondary colours to create a hot air balloon piece. Physical Education News
Congratulations to all students who participated in round 1 of Friday sport last week. I am pleased to announce that all teams got the victory today against Glenroy West. I have attached the fixture for the remaining rounds- please note that next week we have an away game against Glenroy Central. Grade 5s playing in softball and bat tennis, please stay tuned for updates regarding your selection for next week. Grade 6 students get the first preference for games. I apologise for this, however you will all have your chance next year to have first preference. If you have any queries regarding Friday sport, please get in touch :) Kind regards Liam Performing Arts News
This week in Performing Arts all grades are beginning their units of work using a story book/novel as a focus in their drama lessons. Over the next few weeks, students will be listening to stories and use different drama devices to explore characters and situations. The books chosen are relatively new to many readers so it’s very exciting to make predictions along the way, please don’t feel inclined to read these stories at home (the less spoilers the better!) This week Grade 1/2 students are trying to guess the storyline by looking at different artefacts from the book. Using artefacts/props creates wonder and helps learners with their storytelling and questions. Students sat in a circle and were shown an old suitcase, inside were objects from the story. Students asked questions and made statements about each artefact as they came out of the case. After all artifacts were shown students had an opportunity to share their ideas of the books storyline. Next week the book title will be revealed! Perhaps show this photo of the artefacts and share some of your own wonderings with your child. Can you guess the book title from these objects?
