Book Parade and Book Swap – Thanks for attending Thank you to all the parents and carers that attended our Book Parade last Friday. It was wonderful to host an event with such strong costume commitment from students and staff. Thank you to teachers and ES staff for their organisation for the event. Additional shout-outs to Michelle for her preparation and advertisement of the ‘Wanted Wolf’ and to Melanie for her ‘Hippo on the Roof’ that furthered the fun and theatrics on the day. Our Book Swap earlier in the week was really successful with around $500 raised. These funds contribute to purchasing books by Indigenous authors and mentor texts for use in classrooms. Thank you to Lauren and Indigenous Education Community of Practice for their continued commitment and thanks to everyone that donated and purchased a book. Parent, Caregiver and Guardians Opinion Survey The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. A random sample of 110 families have been selected to participate in this year’s survey. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September. If you received the link and physical note in your child’s bag, please complete the survey as we really want to hear our community thoughts on our school and how we can improve it and to celebrate our successes. OSHC Price Increase – From August 29th 2022 At our most recent School Council meeting, our council analysed the attendance and staffing costs of our current Outside School Hours Care service. The recent Victorian Government School Agreement has provided wage increases for Education Support Staff working in classrooms and care services, which results in an increased cost to maintain the current program. We value the care and consideration our program provides to the community requiring supervision before and after school. Our council considered the Childcare Subsidy provided to families, with 86% of our families receiving a government subsidy to further reduce the actual cost. Our new daily rates are in-line with the cheapest equivalent service in the area, without any additional cost for casual bookings. The new pricing structure is provided below: Before School Care - $19.00 per session – before Childcare Subsidy After School Care - $23.00 per session – before Childcare Subsidy Final Day of Term – PPD – Students not required to attend school. Friday September 16th You may be aware that the Victorian Government Schools Agreement has recently been approved. This agreement outlines the working conditions for staff working in government schools. The agreement states that teachers will be entitled to 2 further professional practice days in 2022, 2 professional practice days in 2023 and one professional practice day in 2024. For Semester 2, 2022 (Term 3&4) the Department of Education and Training has provided schools with the option to hold each teacher’s allocated professional practice day on the same day for all staff. Students will therefore not be required to attend school on these Professional Practice Days. This arrangement is to enable the most effective and efficient use of this day and responds to the lack of Casual Replacement Teachers (CRTs) available at present. To ensure the least disruption to learning and families our Consultative Committee has endorsed the date of Friday September 16th, the day after the final school concert. Students will not be required to attend school on Friday 16th September. This day will enable teachers to plan and further prepare for Term 4. If you need supervision support on this day, please email the school at [email protected] or call on 9306 9182 by September 9th. The school will collate this information and arrange an option to support families requiring supervision for their children on September 16th. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal School Concert

Thank you students, teachers and families for your amazing contributions to the Great Book Swap during Book Week. It was wonderful to see the students flicking through books, finding gems and donating money for a worthwhile cause. We have raised $675 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, who provide books in First Languages, and learning resources to children and families living in remote Communities across Australia. We have also donated extra books to Books n’ Boots, a local group who will send books to First Nations rural and remote communities and schools. Thank you so much for your support of this event! Indigenous Education Committee Book Week Parade
Physical Education
On Tuesday, a large group of our students travelled to Epping to compete in our Glenroy District Athletics carnival. It is fair to say we had an incredibly successful day! From initial counts, we have had 23 students finish in 1st place. We are also awaiting confirmation on whether or not our 2nd place getters also qualify for the next round. Unfortunately rain suspended the final event of the day, so some students missed out on their 1500m events. Thank you to all the parents that came and helped on the day, your ongoing support has been crucial for allowing the students to have these wonderful opportunities. Without you, these events just could not happen! Stay tuned for next week’s update. Thanks Liam Athletics Day
Visual Arts
The big announcement of the top ten finalists, and the winner of the school concert advertising and DVD competition will be announced this Friday at the school assembly. Please come along and show your support for the wonderful artwork created by students.
The finalists will be introduced at the assembly, and they will display their artworks to the audience members. The winner of the competition will be announced and presented with a poster size colour copy of their artwork, along with two free concert tickets and an art stationery prize. Thank you to all of those students that took the time to enter the competition. It was a difficult task for all of the staff at OPPS to select the finalists and indeed the winner of the competition. Who will the finalists and winner be? It will all be announced this week at the school assembly! O.P.P.S Fundraiser
