Welcome back to Term 2!
I hope everyone had a refreshing break and is ready for an exciting and productive Term 2 at Oak Park Primary School!
This term promises to be busy and filled with events, multiple public holidays, a Curriculum Day, Professional Practice Day and Student-Led Conferences. We also have school photos, the school dental van and another Open Street event to enjoy. All the dates are listed at the top of our newsletter for future reference.
We’ve also had a chance to unpack the data and comments from our recent communication survey, working with our Lola Grech our School Council President. Watch out for further information next week and some upcoming changes to the newsletter and Compass posts.

Oak Park Primary School's 70th Anniversary! Ideas Welcome
We are thrilled to announce that this year marks a significant milestone for our school as we celebrate our 70th anniversary! Over the decades, Oak Park Primary School has been a cornerstone of our community, nurturing generations of learners and fostering a spirit of achievement and inclusion.
To commemorate this special occasion, we are planning a memorable community event and we need your ideas! We invite all students, parents, alumni, and staff to contribute their thoughts on how we can best celebrate this milestone together.
Please share your creative ideas using the short Google Form linked below:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScZTQdt1d1ZJKQInm8OTThBLTAEwUhq_0b-7muAdGeFSY011A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Your input is valuable in shaping this event and making it a memorable experience for everyone. Let's come together as a community to honour our school's rich history and celebrate 70 years of OPPS!

Ride & Stride e-cargo bike loans available again to Oak Park Primary families!
Now we’ve settled into the school year, it’s a great time to try out a cheaper & more enjoyable way of doing the school run.
Following the success of our Ride & Stride e-cargo bike loans we ran in partnership with Council last year, we are offering parents another 50% discount on an e-cargo bike for 2 months!
The bikes can carry up to 2 kids (and all the gear), and you’ll receive a free home delivery, induction on how to ride, and rider support over the course of the loan. If you’d like to continue riding the bike after the 2 months, Lug+Carrie can organise a subscription option suitable for your needs, or you can buy the bike outright.
You’ll join over 150 Merri-bek families who have transformed their school run through these Ride & Stride subsidies, with more and more local parents realising the joy, convenience, and cost savings of switching from 4 wheels to 2.

  • Wednesday 17th July: Parents & Carers are notified in writing by Oak Park Primary School of their childs Year 7 placement for 2025
Families who are not applying at a Government Secondary College, but enrolling their child at a Catholic or Private College, are still required to return the Application to Oak Park Primary School noting this
Should families have any queries regarding the process, please see Fran in the Office or email [email protected]
Parents/Guardians:
  • Find your local secondary school or preferred schools at findmyschool.vic.gov.au.
  • Complete the Application form and return it to Oak Park Primary School by Friday 10 May 2024.        Year 7 placement is decided by secondary schools. However, all communication about placement must be with Oak Park Primary School until the placement is confirmed.
  • You will receive notification of your child's year 7 placement on Wednesday 17 July 2024.
  • Your child's new secondary school will then contact you later in the year to let you know about year 7 orientation.
Some secondary Colleges in the area are zoned and will not accept students who reside outside the zone.  We ask families to be aware of zoning issues when applying for Secondary Colleges.  Secondary Colleges will require proof of address as part of their enrolment process.
Information from Secondary Colleges regarding school tours and information days/nights will be placed in our newsletter as they becomes available.  We would advise families to make the most of these opportunities so you may make an informed decision regarding your preferred school

2nd Hand Uniform Sale
This Friday 19 April from 2.45–3.45 pm the PFA will be holding a Second-hand Uniform Sale on the tiger turf outside the staffroom. This gives families at our school an opportunity to purchase second-hand any uniform items that they need. All funds raised from the sale go to the school.   Please note that unfortunately we won’t be accepting any unwanted uniforms or uniforms for swapping at this sale.
Mother's Day Stall
PFA News: Call-out for volunteers and donations for Mother’s Day Stall

This year the PFA’s Mother’s Day Stall will be held on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May, and we are seeking volunteers to help out with sales at the stall between 8.40 am and 11 am.
If you are able to lend a hand, please email us at [email protected] indicating which day and time you are available. Even if you are only able to come along for an hour, it will be a big help!
All volunteers must have a current Working with Children Check. They are free for volunteers – apply at https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/
  • We are also asking for donations from the school community to augment the stock for the stall. Gifts are usually sold for between $1 and $5, so items such as bath salts, candles or other small, simple handmade goodies are ideal.
If you are able make or otherwise have something to donate, please email us at the address above to let us know what you would like to give and to organise drop-off details. We will need to receive donations by Friday 3 May. Thank you for your support!
Wednesday Walking Club
Wednesday Walking Club has started up for Term Two!
Get down to Maree’s classroom in the 5/6 area, first half of lunch on a Wednesday if you would like to take part in our walks with Zoe.
It’s first in best dressed and you need to have local excursion permission.
We had a great walk this week with Zoe finding some beautiful leaves that had dropped from the trees to add to our Writer’s Notebook covers!

Grade 5/6 Book Tasting
This week the Grade 5/6s had a wonderful time at their "Book Tasting". The students were served at OPPS's very own Starbooks Cafe and the teachers offered a range of delicious books to try. The 'staff' at the cafe were all very impressed with their polite ordering, extraordinary table manners and careful choosing of which books to try! It was such a fun way to find new books!
