Carols Night – Pencil in the Date – Tuesday December 14th We are excited to take the first steps towards rebuilding our community engagement, with our proposed ‘Carols Picnic’. Please pencil in Tuesday 14th December into your calendars for this outdoor event on the school site. If the heavens are kind to us, we hope to have a lovely summer’s evening whereby parents could bring along a picnic dinner from 5:00-7:00 pm with carols commencing from around 5:30. Over the coming weeks, the school will continue to monitor operational guidelines and government restrictions to ensure the event can proceed with a strong COVID safe plan. We will provide further details through the newsletter as our planning unfolds. I’ve heard that previous carols have been a wonderful way to wrap up the school year. We are all well overdue for a bit of fun and Xmas cheer. We certainly have our fingers crossed that this event will proceed without too many complications! Tree Clean Up – Thank You! A massive thank you to the Ward and Pereira families for assisting with cutting up some downed trees from the recent storm. The storm did damage some large trees in the sustainability area behind the gym but thankfully didn’t cause any damage to our buildings. We really appreciate the time and effort to help safely section up these trees and downed branches. Parent Survey – School Review Every four years schools undertake a cyclic review to establish a new strategic plan, documenting future strategies, targets and activities for the school. We hosted a parent forum online last week as part of our pre-review self-evaluation. It was great to hear from parents – this feedback will help the review panel guide the process in Term 1, 2022. If you’re interested in answering the same questions and providing further insight please take 10-15 minutes to complete the survey, link below. https://forms.gle/fcxYgxPs7hZPZp8s9 Class Placements for 2022 As we begin to draft our new classes for 2022, there are several factors that will be carefully considered. In each new class, teachers will aim to ensure that there is a balance of academic capabilities, social competencies, behavioural traits & special needs, so that the classes at each level have an almost identical profile. In addition to these factors, our teachers also take into account each child’s nominated peers to ensure that every child is matched to at least one friend that supports their learning (Please note that the peers/friends are not listed in any preferential order and it is explained to all students). As you can appreciate this is a very complex undertaking, especially considering our total school enrolment of 400 students. To this end, please be assured that all of these factors are carefully considered. Like you, we want to ensure that we establish the best learning opportunities for all of our students in 2022 (particularly in light of the disruptions over the last 24 months as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic). Given the rigour in this process, we ask that parents refrain from requesting friendship groupings and teacher preferences, unless there are extenuating circumstances that we may not be aware of which may potentially impact on a child’s placement. If you believe that extenuating circumstances exist in regards to your child’s placement in 2022, please provide these details via email at [email protected]. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal Grade 4 News
In Respectful Relationships this term, we have been exploring gender and identity. We have been investigating gender stereotypes and challenging the norms that are reinforced through media and literature. Here are some examples of our work. A Poem about Gender by Amany & Helena “Boys have to like blue and green, Playing football and hockey.” “Girls have to like pink and purple, Pretty little princesses and cooking.” Hold up, why the gender stereotypes? What can’t girls like blue and green? My favourite colour is green. Chris 4T

Grade 6 Graduation
The Grade 6 Graduation Ceremony is taking place on Thursday 9th December. As part of the evening, a light supper is provided to parents of graduating students after the ceremony. The PFA have asked for around 5 volunteers to help on the night with serving food and drinks and then packing up afterwards (around 6pm – 9pm). Many of the current Grade 6 parents volunteered last year, so this is a great way to pay it forward. If you can help out, please contact Eugenie Baulch on ([email protected]) as soon as possible. Your help is greatly appreciated. Zoopers Doopers
