Covid Update – Next RAT distribution We want to thank parents, students and staff for the great job they have done in keeping our school as safe as possible by following important COVIDSafe measures such as mask wearing (indoors), physical distancing, ventilation, getting vaccinated and rapid antigen testing. Our next shipment of rapid antigen tests has arrived, and we will distribute a box of tests to each student this Friday afternoon (please check the school bag this Friday). This new supply will support you to undertake two tests at home each week for each child during the remaining weeks of March. We ask that you contact the school’s main office immediately (9306 9182) if your child does return a positive test. We look forward to your continued support and understanding over the coming weeks as we do our best to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, staff and parents. School Review The first day of our school review (validation day) was Tuesday the 15th March, it was a really positive start to the process. The review team unpacked data sets from the last four years at Oak Park and noted our strong academic success and positive wellbeing data. The review team also completed classroom observations across the school to see classes in action and talk to students about their learning. Our next review day (Fieldwork Day) includes teacher forums, student forums, education support staff forums and also a parent forum. The parent forum is hosted 9:00 - 9:30 this upcoming Monday the 21st. It’s a great opportunity to provide further feedback and context to the review panel regarding:
If you’re available and can attend, please let me know via a quick email to michael.gill@education.vic.gov.au to ensure there’s enough space to safely socially distance attendees. Student Agency – Student Representative Council Our Student Representative Council’s (SRC) first meeting was last Friday. I worked with the SRC and School Captains to determine some short-term goals and a big ticket idea for 2022. Thus far, the ideas list includes some adjustments to the adventure playground, expanded swimming program, more lunchtime clubs, donations to support a sustainable charity and the big-ticket idea of a Ga-Ga ball court built in the school. I’m looking forward to seeing these ideas refined and supporting student agency to help our leaders turn ideas into real outcomes for the school.
School Council Subcommittees – Final Call
Our School Council is seeking further support and input around two key areas and gauging parent interest in creating some sub committees. The council has endorsed the possible creation of two new subcommittees supporting the following areas:
Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal 2023 Enrolments
Oak Park Primary School is accepting enrolments for 2023. If you have another child (sibling to one already attending) starting school next year we ask that you complete an enrolment form at your earliest convenience. If you know of families who will have a child starting school next year, please also advise them that our enrolments are now open. They may call the school on 9306-9182 or email Fran frances.macdonough@education.vic.gov.au Our school tours will be starting approximately May 2022. Student Absences
If your child is going to be absent from school for the whole day, we ask that parents/guardians mark their absence in Compass. This avoids them having an unexplained absence and receiving letters of attendance at the end of term. We would also ask families who have received letters of attendance with unexplained absences, to please complete these via Compass or return the completed form to the office. You do not need to mark a late arrival or early departure, as this is done on the day by parents when bringing your child in late, or signing them out early Visitors to School
When coming on to the school grounds as a visitor, we remind you of the need to sign in via the compass Kiosk at the front desk. Please note you must also sign out when leaving the school. PFA News

This week is the last week of the regular summer fixture for interschool sport for the Bat tennis, Softball and Cricket teams. Currently we have our mixed cricket and girls bat tennis teams on top of the ladder, followed by our mixed bat tennis and both softball teams sitting just outside of the top 2 qualifying position for finals at third place. Good luck to all teams! A notice for all students: There will be no borrowing of sports equipment from Liam at lunch and recess for the remainder of the term. This is due to students continually not returning equipment after use. I encourage students to bring their own equipment from home until the equipment supplies return to normal. Auskick AFL Victoria is inviting all students aged 5-12 to come and give Auskick a go! Details: Saturday 20th March @ Sewell Reserve- Glenroy. Registrations from 9:30am. Session goes from 10am to 12pm. Please read the attached flyer if you wish to register. Futsal
All girls in grades 3-6 have an opportunity to participate in a female only fustal academy run by Female Fustal Leauge. It will run over 5 weeks and would cost $50 per student for the 5 sessions. If this is something you are interested in, have a read of the booklet attached and email me if you would like to be added to my list, Kind regards,
Liam Performing Arts
Grade 1/2 Dance Mirrors In Performing Arts Grade 1/2 students have been connecting with each other with a dance activity called Dance Mirrors. Students mirror the movements and emotions of their partner, showing the same body shapes and facial expressions. Students are working towards creating a story through dance, expressing sadness and happiness showing different timing and shapes for each emotion. Ask your child about this activity this week! CONCERT HELPERS Thank you to all the parents who are willing to help with the school concert. An email will be sent soon with jobs which will need to be completed in Term 2. Thank you for your support. If you are able to help support the concert with sewing, props making or any other hidden talents please email Melanie- Melanie.Schirmer@education.vic.gov.au |
Visual Arts
Grade 5 and 6 students participating in Visual Arts classes over the past few sessions have produced some high quality artworks based on self portraits and things of interest. The examples below are just a few of the amazing artworks being produced by our very talented artists at Oak Park Primary. Amazing work!
Curriculum Contribution Update
Firstly, we would love to thank our families who have already contributed to our school in 2022, we greatly appreciate your generosity! Currently we have received 67.5% of contributions for 2022. Attached is a breakdown of our 2022 curriculum contributions & other contributions. This will help outline what your contributions will go towards in helping our school continue to strive. For families wishing to still contribute, these items will be open for the duration of 2022. You can pay through compass, over the phone or in the front office. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Brinley.keep@education.vic.gov.au or call our front office on 9306 9182. Once again, we thank you! Year 6-7 Transition
2022 to 2023 application/placement information pack for parents/carers with Year 6 students at government schools will be sent home to parents from the primary school. They are not available via the Secondary Colleges. The information pack will include an Application and information regarding the process. There is a timeline which will be included in our newsletter as well as any open days and information received from the Secondary Colleges. Most secondary Colleges are strictly zoned, parents/guardians will need to be aware of which schools this refers to, and that you will need to reside within the zone to attend those schools. Those families applying to Private or Catholic Schools will still need to complete the form as there is a section if your child has been confirmed at one of these schools Community News
