Student Safety in the Drop Off Loop
Recently we’ve had instances of parents turning right on Summit Ave from our vehicle loop, despite the ‘No right turn’ sign on display. This driving behaviour is dangerous due to the lack of visibility for approaching traffic coming up the hill. We’ve also had a parent attempt a three-point turn in the middle of the street and hit the post for the school crossing. Please use the vehicle loop with caution – we have a staff member on duty every day to support students entering cars safely in the loop and Sheryl the crossing guard from Merri-Bek Council to support with crossing the road. If any concerning behaviour continues School Council has suggested inviting Merri-Bek Council or the Highway Patrol down to regularly support driver behaviour and potentially fine drivers not obeying the relevant laws. Mathematics – Problem Solving with Launch, Explore Summarise Pete Sanders our Mathematics Consultant worked onsite this term for 4 days in classrooms, on top of the Curriculum Day earlier this term. All teachers had the opportunity to see the new additional instructional model modelled (Launch, Explore Summarise) at least two times and the chance to debrief and ask questions. Four staff members also taught a lesson for Pete and received feedback to further improve their practice. Overall, the staff had an enriching experience and are excited to apply their newfound knowledge in the classroom setting. Ride and Stride Success! Ride and Stride has had a tremendous start at Oak Park with around 110 students tagging on daily to earn house points and inform parents of their safe arrival at school. We’ve also received some prizes to distribute each assembly for random students that participate. Our parent community enjoyed a really successful test ride (most rides ever apparently) event from Lug and Carrie. 18 families have borrowed a cargo bike for the 4 week trial period. We look forward to the ‘Open Street’ events planned for next term. More information here: https://youtu.be/JNjGUD4y3BA Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal Interschool Sports

We are thrilled to be welcoming Djirri Djirri to our school for a dance performance as part of our NAIDOC Week Celebrations. Djirri Djirri are the only Wurundjeri female dance group, and are Traditional Custodians of Narrm (Melbourne) and surrounds. Students will observe and participate in the dance performance to learn more about Wurundjeri Creation Narratives. Then students will continue their learning during the week around the theme 'For Our Elders'. Lunchtime Clubs
We have many lunchtime clubs operating in the first half of lunch each day. Here’s some snippets from some of those activities: GUIDED DRAWING CLUB This week in Guided Drawing Club we drew Sonic the Hedgehog! It was tricky at first, but we used a growth mindset and overcame the challenge. We loved to use different colours to draw our Sonics and experiment with texta, pencil and crayon. We noticed that even though we are all doing the same drawing, they all turned out differently! We had so much fun chatting, laughing and drawing during our lunchtimes and it is so fun to get together with people from different grades. Take a look at our amazing work! Come along every Tuesday at 11:10 in Fabia’s room (2F)! All grades welcome! ART CLUB
Art Club runs every Friday 1st half of lunch with Kira and a previous student of Oak Park PS, the lovely Mia Marcialis. Current students April Destito from 3/4K and Amelia Demercurio from 5/6J have also been wonderful in helping run activities. This term, we have been running Art Club with the 1/2s. We have worked with a range of mediums including pencils, crayons, watercolours and acrylic paint. One of our favourite activities was creating nature inspired artworks using crayons and watercolour wash over the top. Have a look at some of our wonderful creations! BOARD GAMES CLUB
Board Game Club occurs each Wednesday, first half of lunch. Students of all ages have enjoyed a quiet and interactive space to play board games such as Monopoly and Scrabble, and other games such as Connect Four, Pick-up Sticks and Uno. It has been great to see a mixture of ages demonstrating respect, responsibility and resilience when playing games just for fun 😊 Maree GARDENING CLUB
Gardening Club has had a growing membership and it has been wonderful to engage with kids of all ages and from all grade levels. This week we cleaned out the planter boxes around the Foundation and Grade 1/2 playground. It was pleasing to see that the carrots, parsley and lettuce are growing splendidly, thanks to all the parents who have provided seedlings. They are most appreciated. We look forward to our student gardeners harvesting their crops soon. Gardening club runs during the first half of lunch on Tuesdays and all students are welcome. Stephanie and Michael IMAGINATION CLUB
Imagination Club runs for the first half of lunch every Wednesday in Lauren’s classroom. We do all things imaginative play! So far, our favourite activities have been dressing up as characters using the dress up box, building cities with magnetic blocks and creating our own puppet shows. If you are in Foundation, Year 1 or Year 2, come and join us next term every Wednesday! ADVANCED DANCE
Thursday lunchtime- Grade 3-6 Advance Dance students are enjoying our Hip Hop dance routine! We are enjoying the warms ups and really getting into the dance style. We can’t wait to develop a full routine and perform it in Term 3 (when we are confident and ready!) It’s not too late to come join, come along and have some fun with Kate and Melanie! SPORTS CLUB
Every Thursday during 1st half of lunch, Sports Club is run by Liam in the Gym for all Grade 3 and 4 Physical Education
