Principal's Column
Warm Welcome
A big thank you to everyone that’s welcomed me as Acting Principal. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know staff and students over the last few days, and look forward to working at OPPS during Term 3. My favourite experience thus far has been visiting classrooms, chatting with students and hearing about their learning. I’m also having individual meetings with staff members and learning about their aspirations to further enhance education at the school. Please feel free to say ‘Hello’ if you see me in the yard before and after school.

Student Led Conferences Wednesday 14th of July
Thank you to parents, students and teachers for really successful Student-Led Conferences on Wednesday. We appreciate the ability to meet with parents in-person and celebrate student progress with you. Thank you for checking-in and following the current COVID-safe guidelines.

Assemblies
This week we will be returning to our usual physical assembly format for students and teachers on Friday afternoon. We’re unable to welcome back parents as yet, but we are watching the operation guide closely and hope to welcome parents back to assemblies soon.

Kind regards,
Michael Gill
Acting Principal

Parent Drop-off & Pick-up
We remind Parents/Carers of our Late Arrival/Early Departure policy:

LATE ARRIVAL:
If you are dropping your child off late, you MUST bring them into the office area and complete a late arrival sign in, which your child will then give to their teacher.  Please do NOT drop your children off by themselves, particularly at the back of the school or drive through, as this is a safety issue.  There have been a large number of students arriving late recently, who have just been dropped off at school and not being bought in via the Office.

EARLY DEPARTURES:
Parents/carers MUST come in via the Office and sign their child out if leaving school early.  We will then organise for your child to come to the Office area to be picked up.  Please do not make your way into the school grounds or to your childs classroom except via the office where you will need to sign them out first.

ALL PARENTS/CARERS COMING INTO THE ADMINISTRTAION AREA MUST CHECK IN VIA THE QR CODE
Face Mask Requirements
Just a reminder around the current face mask requirements within schools.
  • School Staff should wear a face mask indoors when interacting with external visitors, including parents/carers and staff/students from other schools.
  • Visitors and parents must observe indoor face mask requirements. Face masks continue to be recommended outdoors when 1.5m physical distancing cannot be maintained.
Please also use our Check-In QR Codes posted around the school when you visit
SPECIALIST
DOJO Awards
To create a positive culture within Specialists classrooms, all Specialists teachers use the DOJO system to encourage students to show positive behaviours within the classroom. Teachers can encourage students for a variety of skills or values- whether it’s working hard, being kind, helping others or a class focus. Students then receive points for these behaviours which then get added up at the end of term. The students who receive the most DOJO’s for the term then receive a DOJO certificate to take home in recognition for their excellent behaviour.

The following students received the most DOJO points for Term 2. Congratulations!

We hope your amazing certificate will be proudly displayed at home!

DESIGN YOUR OWN SHOPPING BAG
Something fun for those creative kids out there! We have a bunch of canvas/linen bags which I would like to have decorated and sell at our market stall on Fridays. We know bringing these type of bags instead of using plastic bags can prevent a lot of waste, so we’d really like to encourage everybody to do this. We are hoping students could come up with some great images and slogans which we could decorate our bags with, using iron-on transfers. So, we’re asking for any student who’s interested (particularly those who have been involved in the ‘Green Team’) to design something that might publicise some of the values which might help us contribute to a better environment.                                                                  It should include a short slogan, an image that matches the message and the name of our school. Other than that, use the freedom to create.

All artworks should be submitted electronically to my email (John.Hughes2@education.vic.gov.au) by Friday 6th August. I will display all the artworks and match as many as I can to the number of bags we have, then we will offer the bags for sale at our Friday markets soon after that. I look forward to seeing all the amazing, creative things our students can come up with!

Physical Education
Dear Students, Parents & Guardians,
Unfortunately, this week's round of inter-school sport will not go ahead as Corpus Christi has been forced to forfeit due to other commitments. Good news is that all teams will receive a win!
On Friday, we will run some training sessions with our teams if the weather allows for it.

Kind regards,
Liam

Special Groups Photo Day
On Wednesday 25th August, 5/6 Sports teams and Grade 6’s will be getting their sport and Graduation photos done.  We ask the sports teams to ensure they have their sports uniform this day.  Also the Grade 6 graduation photos will be done, so please wear the correct uniform for these photos
