NAPLAN Results – Well done to Staff and Students The collated NAPLAN results for the state have been made available to school, I’m pleased to share a brief summary below of our students top 2 band (highest performing) achievement. Below is a table collating the NAPLAN results for Reading, Writing and Numeracy. Demonstrating strong achievement for students in the Top 2 Bands for Year 3 and 5 students, in comparison to other students from our school network. Our students have achieved above their network for all results, except for Year 5 Writing. This was the first time Oak Park has completed Year 5 Writing online rather than in a physical hand-written format. We’ll monitor this area closely in 2023 to support students adjusting to the new format. Sadly, there is no growth data available for Year 5 students as they couldn’t sit the assessments in the 2020. Our focus on Mathematics flexible groups have supported improved results in Numeracy, our annual implementation for 2023 will focus again on Numeracy, Writing and Wellbeing. Congratulations to students and teachers on their results.
Hats Just a reminder that the Spring weather (usually) brings beautiful sunshine but also increased UV radiation. Students require a hat at school every day. If students are outside without a hat, teachers will direct them to play in the shade for their safety. So please support students’ ability to play freely by packing a hat (or two) in school bags, with names on the inside to assist the return of any lost hat. Please note that students need to wear an appropriate school hat, either the bucket, broadbrim or legionnaire designs. All three styles offer adequate protection from the sun. The use of other hats cannot be supported as they don’t meet the sunsmart requirements and promote unnecessary attention or boastful behaviour from students. Hats can be purchased via our uniform shop or navy coloured options are available at Big W and Kmart at reasonable prices. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal CSEF 2023 Application Form

Form attached, or may be collected from the Office Sports Photos
NOTE NEW DATE: Grade 5/6 sports students will be having their photos taken on Thursday 27th October. We would ask those students to please bring their sports tops to wear for the photos. Grade 2 Parent Helpers
Due to unforeseen circumstances, we may possibly require a parent volunteer to attend the Grade 2 Sleepover to ensure the correct adult-student ratio, depending on final student numbers to be confirmed today. This would require you to bring a sleeping mat, sleeping bag etc and stay overnight at school from 8:00pm - 7:00am. Please let me know as soon as possible if you would be able to step in and assist if required. Many thanks, Tess Foundation News
On Tuesday, the Foundation students headed off to Scienceworks to begin exploring the forces of push and pull. We most enjoyed the Toys and Forces Show, looking around Ground Up and of course the bus ride. A big thank you to our parent helpers Charla, John, Amanda, Pippa, Laura and Justin for volunteering your time! Check out some pictures from our excursion: Performing Arts
This week students will begin a Japanese drama focus in Performing Arts. Over the next 4 weeks we will be exploring Traditional Japanese Stories and acting these stories out using various drama devices such as Tableaux, Hot Seating and Conscious Alleys.
To create wonderings and a sense of purpose, the Grade 1/2’s began the unit looking at various Japanese artefacts. We read the beginning of the traditional Japanese children’s story ‘Peach Boy’ and a few students dressed in traditional kimono and become the old man and old woman in the story, the audience asked the characters questions regarding the story. Physical Education
This week students are continuing to work on developing their knowledge of net/wall games with a focus on challenge by choice. Students in junior years have had the choice of setting realistic challenges in the classroom. If an activity is too hard, they have been tasked to find a solution to simplify the activity. Whereas if the activity is too easy, they must create a new challenge to increase the difficulty. Students were tasked with activities such as badminton and tennis striking as well as volleyball digs and sets. Students in grades 3-6 have focused on developing their volleyball skills, this week’s focus was on game scenarios including how to attack and defend in volleyball. Skills covered include setting team members up for spikes, defensive bumps/passes and serving. After the completion of the skills section, students were then tasked with creating a set of rules to follow when completing the game sense segment of the lesson. Some rules they could change included- height of nets, Newcombe rules, traditional volleyball rules or a combination of rules. Visual Arts
Hi OPPS Families, Your child(ren) will be bringing some artwork home this week that they have planned and made a start on in art classes in Week 1 and 2. The artwork is being created for the annual PFA Kids Art Works fundraiser. Student artworks can be scanned and printed onto items such as calendars, diaries, greeting cards, mousepads and sketchbooks. Artworks need to be finished at home and must be returned to David Flint in the Art Room by Thursday October 20th. Order forms have been distributed to the students and will also need to be returned to classroom teachers by Thursday the 20th of October. If you require additional order forms please collect these from the school office. Any order inquiries can be directed to the PFA at the email address below. [email protected] This is a fundraising initiative and has been quite successful in years past. A portion of the money generated by Kids Artworks orders will be reimbursed to the school, assisting with funding programs and initiatives for the 2023 school year. We highly value the continued support shown by the OPPS community. Thank you! David Flint (Visual Arts Teacher) Term 4 Canteen Menu
