EARLY YEARS NEWS
Foundation News
We would like to let you know, we have changed the date of the Milo Monkey’s Birthday Surprise to Week 8, Wednesday 11th May. Invitation to follow soon. Please see your classroom teacher if you have any questions. Foundation Cra-Z hair day
What an action packed Week 3 has been for Foundation! We began the week learning the sound /z/, so to mark the occasion we had Cra-Z hair day. Cyndi Lauper would have been proud! We had coloured hairspray, crazy spikes, donuts, and unicorns! Foundation Mothers Day - Afternoon Tea
On Thursday we invited the lovely Mums of Foundation to an afternoon tea. We enjoyed a singing performance of ’What a Wonderful World’, (which still brings a tear to Lauren’s eye) and then a feast of scones, jam and cream, which were a hit – I believe the record was 4, well done Hugo! The Foundation students also made coconut balls for their Mum’s to enjoy, however, I’m not sure many of them made it home! It was a lovely afternoon, a big thank you to everyone who attended. Grade 1/2 LEGO Exhibition
The force was with the Year 1 and 2 students this Monday as we boarded the Millennium Falcon aka the CDC Tullamarine Bus and headed to Melbourne Museum for the Lego Star Wars Exhibition. It was a joy to watch the students engage with collaborative building challenges and demonstrate their creativity. A huge thank you to our parent helpers for your support on the day. Check out some pictures of our day below: MIDDLE YEARS NEWS
Writing Workshop with Deborah Abela – Monday 5th May 2025
Thanks to our membership of PETAA (the Primary English Teachers Association Australia), we were able to access a one-day online workshop for high ability students in our year 4 cohort. Deb Abela was engaging, supportive and in the words of our students, ‘funny and fun!’ Deb shared how she was inspired by her Year 4 teacher who told her that her writing was great when she was young. Deb took this to heart and now thirty books later and with multiple awards, she may have inspired some of our students! Over the day, students practised writing based on picture prompts, sentence starters, played with ‘making trouble’ (causing problems in a text which is essential for storytelling) and even had the chance to rewrite/imagine the next page of one of Deb’s own novels! They were able to share their writing with Deb as well, who provided individual feedback to our students which was wonderful. Quotes from our students: Meeting Deb was super-fun. It was interesting to meet an author and took about her books. Made me feel good about writing. I told my mum all about it, it was great that we got to do this. I can’t wait for writing again. I’m tired but what a fun day! SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Grade 3/4 exploring Neutral Scripts in Drama Grade 3/4 students are using neutral scripts to interpret and act out their own endings of the story. This activity is a fantastic way to enhance dramatic skills and deepen students understanding. A neutral script is a deliberately open-ended piece of writing that provides minimal context- such as no defined characters, setting, or plot. This approach allows performers the freedom to interpret and develop the script in their own unique way. By starting without a decided setting, students are prompted to think critically and creatively. They must make decisions about characters, setting, and plot, which fosters problem-solving skills and imaginative thinking. This process encourages them to explore different possibilities and outcomes, enhancing their ability to think outside the box. Working with peers to interpret a neutral script enhances teamwork and communication skills. Students learn to negotiate ideas, listen to others, and build upon each other's contributions, which are essential skills both in and out of the classroom. Collaborating on the development of characters and scenes fosters a sense of community and shared purpose. Great work this week Grade 3/4 students! COMMUNITY NEWS
