Curriculum Days Reminder! Upcoming Art Show - Additional Details
Just wanting to provide a short update with more detail as we prepare for an exciting new event, the Art Show 2025. This celebration will complement our biennial Performing Arts concert by showcasing the incredible talents of our visual artists.
Designed to highlight every student’s creativity, the event will feature 3-4 pieces of artwork from each student, displayed across the entire gym space in beautifully themed sections. The PFA is supporting the occasion with a sausage sizzle and a cash bar, allowing guests to enjoy a dignified drink as they explore the gallery experience. Each student will receive a framed piece of art to take home as a lasting memento, while a t-shirt printing service on the night will offer the chance to have student artwork printed on garments, with deliveries made later to the school. The show is 5PM-8PM on October 23rd, with another brief opening period on the Friday morning for anyone that couldn’t make the Thursday night. Thanks to all the supporters thus far for their donations. We’ll keep you posted with further promotion as we get closer to the event. A Big Thank You to Our SRC for the Amazing Thank You Lunch!
We extend our thanks to the Student Representative Council (SRC) for organising a fantastic Thank You lunch for our teaching and Education Support staff this week. The delicious burgers were a delightful treat, and the effort put into making this event happen was truly appreciated by all. It’s wonderful to see our students leading with such kindness and initiative, and the staff are incredibly grateful for this thoughtful gesture. Swimming Dates - Term 4
Our swimming program is returning to BlueFit at Windy Hill for a week-long program for all students Year 1 – Year 6. The cost of the program is subsidised by the school to keep it as affordable as possible, as all students need a safe level of swimming ability in Australia.
The swim centre will provide a survey in advance to help ensure that all students begin in a group matching their ability to get the most from the program. The dates below for your reference: Week 2 - Year 1/2 – Commencing October 13th Week 3 - Year 3/4 – Commencing October 20th Week 4 - Year 5/6 – Commencing October 27th Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal Assembly Timetable

On the Tuesday 19th August 2025, Oak Park Primary School will be participating in The Great Book Swap! This event supports fundraising efforts for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a charity that provides culturally relevant reading materials to students in rural and remote communities around Australia. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with new reading materials, whilst contributing to a worthwhile fundraising event. Over the next 3 weeks, we ask students to bring in books from home, that they are happy to donate to the cause. Students can give any book donations in the drop off boxes next to the office. We will then conduct our Great Book Swap during lunchtime on Tuesday 19th of August 2025. Students are asked to bring in some money on the day and each book will be sold for $1 each. Book donations will be accepted at the office until Wednesday 13th August. Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to promote reading in our school and contribute to the important work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation! Book Week Parade

EARLY YEARS NEWS
Foundation
100 Days Wiser! Time really creaks up on you… just like that, our Foundation students have officially been in school for 100 days, and there’s no doubt about it, they’re definitely 100 days smarter! To celebrate this milestone, the foundation students transformed into their older (and greyer) selves. The school was filled with nanas and grandpas, shuffling in with walking sticks, spectacles, and too many wrinkles to count! Here’s a snapshot of our day: With help from the Grade 6 Buddies, the kids practised their counting skills by colouring in a gumball machine loaded with 100 gumballs, donned “100 Day” crown with pride and created a 100-fruit loop necklace (not many survived beyond lunchtime!) After all the sugar, the hot chips went down a treat while watching a special screening of Papa Smurf. The day ended with a disco, fortunately there were no aching hips or knees in the process. Here’s to being 100 days bolder, brighter, and a little bit balder! We can’t wait to see what the next 100 days brings. From your ever youthful Foundation Team Foundation Maths - 3D Shape Robots
Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more fun, think again! The Foundation students explored 3D shapes by creating their very own 3D shape robots this week. There were jet packs, robots with built in TVs, and of course, the princess robot! If only there had been a robot to help clean up the rooms! It was a great way to celebrate everything we know about 3D shapes. Foundation - Paramedic Visit
As part of our Inquiry unit about Community Helpers, the Foundation students received a visit from a Paramedic on Monday 4th August. Mark Griffin (parent of Amelia in Grade 2) showed the kids some of the equipment he uses including a heart monitor (good news – Kate is alive and well!) and after an extensive Q and A session (no, Paramedics don’t treat animals!) they were able to explore the back of an Ambulance. Fingers crossed this is the only time they’ll see inside! The flashing lights and siren were a great hit (apologies to Alyena and 3/4M for the noise!) I am confident that they will all be great in an emergency and will remember to call 000. Thanks again to Mark for volunteering his time, the kids loved it! Year 2 - Excursion
Glenroy Library Last Thursday the Year 2 students went on an excursion to Glenroy Library to learn more about non-fiction texts. We loved exploring the huge range of information books! Thank you to Andrea from Glenroy Library for your session. Check out some pictures from our visit below: MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Year 4 - PENOLA Production
Last Thursday the Year 4 students were lucky enough to be invited to Penola Catholic College to watch the opening performance of Beauty and the Best. Students were on the edge of their seats and cheered enthusiastically as the curse was broken and Beast, Cogsworth, Lumiere, Mrs Potts and Chip returned to their human form. Special mention to Rishi Jampani who got up on stage with Gaston and LeFou to proudly represent Oak Park Primary school in the Interval push-up competition! Year 3/4 - Excursion
Melbourne Museum Excursion On Monday 28 July 2025, students in our five 3/4 classrooms travelled to the Melbourne Museum in Carlton to begin our Inquiry Immersion – People and Culture. Our question for Inquiry is: How have First Nations People kept connection to Country and Place and students were able to explore this concept in the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Culture Centre where a guide took us through the First People’s Gallery. Students have been researching and writing an information report on Boorun’s Canoe and were thrilled to see the actual canoe protected behind glass. We also had the chance to visit other galleries, including the Forest Walk where we saw birds and fish that are indigenous to Victoria, as well as the Melbourne Sory gallery where students were partly spooked by the cottage which had the coldest walls (bluestone) ever they claimed! Finally, a visit to IMAX to see a movie on Australian animals, the bush and how First Nations people respect and care for the land was a perfect ending to a busy day. SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS

Greetings from the Science room! This term, our Grade 3 to 6 students are diving into an exciting Biology unit with a focus on adaptations in plants and animals. They’ve been exploring how living things have special features and behaviours that help them survive in their environments. So far, students have investigated the differences between living and non-living things, and have looked closely at how specific adaptations—like the shape of a bird’s beak—are linked to the type of food they eat. It’s been wonderful to see curious minds at work as students ask questions, conduct investigations, and make connections between science and the natural world around them. COMMUNITY NEWS
