Student Toilets and Being Responsible – Please follow up with female students
Picture
We work hard in maintaining clean, accessible facilities so every student feels comfortable throughout the school day. However, we need your assistance with an ongoing issue in our female student washrooms.

Over recent terms, our underground plumbing has suffered from repeated blockages - in fact, our pipes have clogged five times due to excessive amounts of toilet paper being flushed at once. These blockages are coming from the female student toilets.

Beyond the obvious disruption when facilities go out of order, repairing these blockages and replacing wasted supplies uses valuable school funds that would otherwise go toward learning resources and playground equipment.

We kindly ask parents and carers of our female students to take a few minutes at home to talk through these simple habits with their children:
  • Use Just What is Needed: Remind students that three or four sheets of toilet paper are usually plenty. There is no need to pull long ribbons of paper from the dispensers.
  • Keep the Pipes Clear: Large wads of paper choke the plumbing. Using smaller amounts and flushing completely helps prevent unexpected breakdowns.
  • Show Respect for Our Facilities: Taking care of shared spaces ensures the toilets remain clean, functional, and ready for everyone to use.

We have been sharing a visual social story with students at school to help reinforce these habits in a positive way. Your support in continuing this conversation at home makes a huge difference in keeping our school running smoothly.

Portable Roof Works & Temporary Classroom Relocations
As mentioned earlier this term, our upcoming roof replacement works will require a few classes to temporarily relocate for one week at a time while each portable is upgraded.

During these weeks, affected classes will move into the Japanese and Science rooms, with our Japanese and Science specialists running mobile programs. Following some initial delays, the schedule has now been confirmed as follows:
  • Week 9 (Commencing Monday 7th September): Jordan’s class to Science Room & Demi’s class to Japanese Room

Thank you in advance for your flexibility and support as we complete these essential facility upgrades.

Swimming Program in Term 4 – Please complete the survey
Our school swimming program commences again in Week 2 of Term 4 at the Windy Hill Fitness Centre. To ensure our instructors can place students into the most appropriate skill level groups prior to our first session, we ask all families to complete the student assessment survey and process program payment via Compass as soon as possible.

Action Required:
  • Complete the Skill Assessment: Please fill out the online survey link provided on Compass to indicate your child's current swimming confidence and experience.
  • Confirm Payment & Consent: Finalise payment and submission of consent forms via the Compass portal by the due date.

Accurate placement helps ensure every student gets the most out of their time in the water, building both confidence and essential water safety skills.

Which Night Should I Attend?
All students perform on both nights, so families can choose whichever performance night suits them best. If your family is attending one night of the concert your child still needs to be dropped off at the theatre on the second night.
Grade 5/6 Main Characters: If your child is a Grade 5/6 Main Character and you are unsure which night they perform their main character role, please check the attached file before purchasing your tickets.

Costumes list (Now Overdue)
Students needed to have brought their required basic costume clothing items to school by Friday 14 August.

Grade 5/6 Costume Requirements:  here
Grade 5/6 Main Character Costumes: here

Dress Rehearsal Excursion
There will be a full dress rehearsal during school time on the first day of the school concert, Tuesday 15th September. All grades will catch a bus to the Clocktower Theatre and rehearse in full costume on the stage. It is crucial that all students attend this full dress rehearsal which will help the production run smoothly. All students to be picked up from school at 3:30pm as usual.

Concert DVD/USB Available to purchase
We strongly recommend families order a DVD of the concert. Students LOVE to watch the show over and over with family and friends. It’s a wonderful keepsake and also great to have a copy of the show for family members who can’t attend concert nights. There is also the bonus of the staff video on the DVD which is always popular with the students-  hilarious!
DVD/USB orders will be given to all families on Tuesday 1st September.

Concert Merch!
We have the help of our talented parent and t-shirt printing extraordinaire Phil Callaghan to help us create some Shrek merch for students and families. Please watch out for our Compass note with details on how to order! This merch is not just for students, we would love a sea of green in the audience on the night to support our school!

Parent Opinion Survey
You are invited to participate in the annual Parent / Carer Opinion Survey. Your opinions are important to us, and your feedback will assist our school in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of the school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey will be conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete.

The Parent / Carer Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 17 August to Friday 18 September 2026.

To complete the survey, simply:
1. Click on the link below, or copy and paste the text into your browser. This link will take you directly to the survey.
https://research.orima.com/parent
2. Select the School name: Oak Park Primary School
3. Enter the School PIN below.
PIN: 957888
4. When complete, please click on the ‘Submit’ button at the end of the survey to submit your answers.
Please note that the survey will time out after 60 minutes of inactivity.

PLEASE NOTE: Only one parent / carer from your household is invited to complete the survey on behalf of the student’s family. Please reach out to your child’s teacher, or the school if your child’s family lives in two separate households, so both households can have the opportunity to provide their feedback.

The survey is conducted anonymously, and it is important to our school that you complete the survey as honestly as possible.

ORIMA Research, a private research company, is conducting this survey on behalf of the Department of Education. ORIMA Research Pty Ltd has not been and will not be provided with the contact details, names or any other personal identifying information about the parents / carers invited to complete the survey.

Students Leaving 2026
If your child will not be attending Oak Park Primary School in 2027 (other than Grade 6’s), please advise your teacher as well as the office.  You may also email Fran at [email protected] with details.

Families of Grade 6 students are reminded to download their child's reports from Compass prior to the end of the year, as once the student exits Oak Park, these reports are no longer able to be accessed via Compass.
Container Deposit Scheme
♻️ Volunteers Needed for Our Container Deposit Scheme!
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported our Container Deposit Scheme! So far, we’ve raised an amazing $1,100 — that’s 11,000 containers returned to the circular economy!
Special thanks to our extended community as well - Kathleen Matthews Ward and her team, and the Glenroy RSL, for generously donating containers, and to Kathleen for supplying free collection bags, available from the school office.
To keep this initiative going, we’re looking for volunteers to help collect and transport containers from the school and RSL to a CDS drop-off point. Even a one-off pickup would make a big difference!

💚 Interested in helping? Please email the PFA team [email protected]

Thank you for helping us recycle, raise funds and support our school! ♻️
Lost Property
We have a large number of 'abandoned' drink bottles in our lost property, most of them being quite expensive brands. Please see the attached, and if these belong to your child, they may collect them from the office.

Foundation Father's Day BBQ
The rain held off and the grey clouds dissipated covering us with a sea of blue sky and sunshine, just in time for the Foundation Father’s Day BBQ on Thursday 3rd September. It was wonderful to see so many dads, grandpas, uncles and other special invitees here to celebrate this special day.  They were showered in glitter from class made cards and craft on arrival, enjoyed a sausage in bread and played a variety of ball games on the oval.  And, in true testosterone style there was plenty of footy finals fever chat!

Thank you to everyone who was able to come on the day.
Thanks to Michael, Sally, Amy, David Lu, Lauren and Ramneet for helping with the BBQ.

Big thanks to Nat for helping with the clean up at the end.

From the Foundation team, Kate, Jasmyn and Sarah

1G Class Update Term 4
I am writing to share an update regarding our teaching arrangements for Term 4.
Kira’s final day with us before taking leave is planned for Friday, 9th October (end of Week 1, Term 4).
We are grateful for her wonderful work with 1G and wish her all the very best.
To ensure a smooth transition, we have arranged for two fantastic, experienced Oak Park staff members
Bec Whitby and Rachel Turner to teach the class for the remainder of Term 4:
  • Bec Whitby: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
  • Rachel Turner: Thursday and Friday
Both Bec and Rachel are already familiar faces in our school community. During Week 1 of Term 4, they will complete a handover with Kira to maintain complete consistency in learning, routines, and support for the students.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
MIDDLE & SENIOR YEARS NEWS
District Athletics
What a day we had at the District Athletics Carnival at Meadowglen International Athletics Stadium in Epping
Our OPPS Students who represented the school, did an amazing job and should be so proud of themselves. They competed hard, gave everything a go and supported each other throughout the day.

What we were most proud of was the sportsmanship shown by our students. They were constantly encouraging and cheering each other on, celebrating everyone’s efforts and successes. We were the loudest school there! Our students cheered for every Oak Park competitor, but they didn’t stop there. They were cheering for students from other schools too, even when Oak Park wasn’t in the race.

It was so great to see our students getting behind everyone and enjoying the day together.
A huge congratulations to all our students who competed and represented Oak Park Primary. You did us proud!
Well done!
