Great News: Facility Maintenance Underway! As mentioned earlier this term, we are gearing up for important roof replacement works across our portables. To ensure these upgrades are completed safely and efficiently, affected classes will temporarily relocate for one week at a time while their building is being upgraded. During their relocation week, these classes will move into the Japanese and Science rooms. Specialist programs for Japanese and Science will run as mobile classrooms during those times. While a temporary move is never ideal, the end result will be well worth it - no more roof leaks and gutters that actually do their job! Relocation Schedule
We will send additional reminders and specific details to the parents and carers of affected classes closer to their move dates. Thank you in advance for your flexibility, patience, and support as we work through these essential facility improvements. Community Reminder: Australian Mathematics Competition (Tuesday Next Week) A quick reminder for families of students participating in the Australian Mathematics Competition next week. Please note that registrations for this competition have now closed, and these sessions are only for students who have already enrolled. Both Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 students will complete the competition on Tuesday August 4th. We will also host a Makeup Session (All Grades) on Thursday August 6th. What Students Need to Bring:

Location: OPPS Gym Tickets are $10 per school-aged child (payable at the door by cash or card) and include popcorn and a drink. Children under the age of 5 and parents/guardian adult attends free. Bring along your blankets, cushions and favourite movie snacks, then settle in for a fun-filled night with friends and family. Please note: This is not a drop-off event. School Concert 2026
Concert Dates
Tuesday 15th September Wednesday 16th September Shows begin at 7pm (Students need to be dropped off earlier, details will be provided in the school newsletter) All students to attend both nights. Tickets- ON SALE SOON! Tickets to Shrek JR. will be available to purchase from the Clocktower Theatre website on Monday 17th August. New Families please note- Students performing in the show do not require a ticket. A strict maximum of 4 tickets per family can be purchased for the first 2 weeks of sales. This allows time to ensure all families have a chance to purchase tickets, after 2 weeks this ticket limit is lifted and then any extra tickets are available with no ticket limit. This is 4 tickets in total- for example, you can buy 2 tickets for the Tuesday performance and 2 for the Wednesday performance or purchase all 4 of your tickets for one performance night. If your family is attending Shrek JR. for one performing night only, your child still needs to be dropped off at the Clocktower theatre the second night. TIP- a good idea is to arrange a carpool with another family. Please let Melanie know as soon as possible if your child will be absent on either performance night (for example, due to a planned family holiday). Our rehearsals are planned with every student participating and costumes are being made now so early notice is greatly appreciated. Please email Melanie Schirmer at [email protected] if your child will be absent for either performance. Dress Rehearsal Excursion There will be a full dress rehearsal during school time on the first day of the school concert, Tuesday 15th September. All grades will catch a bus to the Clocktower Theatre and rehearse in full costume on the stage. It is crucial that all students attend this full dress rehearsal which will help the production run smoothly. All students to be picked up from school at 3:30pm as usual. Concert DVD/USB Available to purchase We strongly recommend families order a DVD of the concert. Students LOVE to watch the show over and over with family and friends. It’s a wonderful keepsake and also great to have a copy of the show for family members who can’t attend concert nights. There is also the bonus of the staff video on the DVD which is always popular with the students- hilarious! DVD/USB orders will be given to all families on Tuesday 1st September. Concert Merch! We have the help of our talented parent and t-shirt printing extraordinaire Phil Callaghan to help us create some Shrek merch for students and families. Please watch out for our Compass note with details on how to order! This merch is not just for students, we would love a sea of green in the audience on the night to support our school! Unexplained Absences
We have an extraordinary number of unexplained absences in Compass. If your child has an unexplained absence, as a matter of urgency, we ask that you login to Compass and update these with a reason for the absence. When your child is absent, please advise the absence via Compass on the day of absence. Free Container Deposit Scheme
Recycling Bags Available To help support participation in the Container Deposit Scheme, we have a supply of free Visy Exchange recycling bags available for our families, picture attached. For those who are already using these bags to collect eligible bottles and cans for donations back to the school, thank you very much for your ongoing support. If you are simply wanting to use a bag to collect and sort your recycling at home, you are more than welcome to come and collect one for free from the office foyer. Thank you for helping us support this positive sustainability initiative.

Police Visit
Who let the dogs out? Who, who, who, who, who? Who let the dogs out? The Police let the dogs out! Our resident Police representatives, Detective Sergent David, Acting Sergent Sarah (parents of Lucas and Patrick) and four fellow Police Officers visited the school with two very special guests X and Rumble. As part of our investigation into Community Helpers, the students were treated to hands on experiences including looking for and collecting evidence, finger printing and seeing Police sniffer dogs, X and Rumble, in action around the school. Fortunately, they didn’t find anything of interest, although Rumble did leave something behind! Thank you for coming out and explaining how the police help us in our community and for giving the students an amazing experience. 
100 Days of School
My knees are aching, my memory is fading, and don’t talk to me about the wrinkles… But what do you expect when you’ve been at school for 100 days! We are nearly 100 days of school old and to celebrate this wonderful milestone, we’ll be having a 100 days of school party on Wednesday 5th August. We love a dress up so we expect to see a sea of grey hair, bow ties and braces, pearls and rollers and perhaps even some knee high stockings. We’d love the Foundation kids to dress up too! The day will be filled with fun activities (but nothing too strenuous to throw out a hip…) including an afternoon snack of hot chips. We require a payment of $2 per student to cover the cost of the chips. Your child will have bought home a permission form requesting consent and payment. Please return the form to your classroom teacher as soon as possible. Save the date, put it in your calendar (I know the memory can start to fade at 100) and start working out your costume now. Grade 1/2
In Inquiry, the Grade 1/2 students are exploring the features of our local community. To immerse students in our Inquiry unit, we have organised for the Grade 1/2 classes to participate in a local excursion to Glenroy Library. The Grade 2 students will visit Glenroy Library on Wednesday 5 August 2026. The Grade 1 students will visit Glenroy Library on Thursday 6 August 2026. Students are required to arrive at school at the usual time of 8:50 am. After lunch (12:10 pm), we will walk to Glenroy Library, where students will have the opportunity to discover some of the exciting features and services it offers. We will return to school at approximately 3:00 pm. As this is a local excursion, no payment or consent is required. We are looking for one parent helper per class to accompany us on this excursion. Shrek Jr. School Concert F-2 Colouring & 3-6 Poster Competition Winners We are excited to announce that the judging for our Shrek Jr. Foundation–Grade 2 Colouring Competition and Shrek Jr. Grade 3–6 Poster Competition has now been completed. We were incredibly impressed by the creativity, effort and artistic talent displayed by all of the students who entered. The winners will be officially announced at our Whole School Assembly on Friday 7 August at 3:00 p.m. Parents, grandparents and other family members are warmly invited to join us as we celebrate the achievements of our talented artists. Winners will be presented with art supply prizes and receive their framed artwork in recognition of their outstanding entries. Congratulations to every student who participated. All forms are to be retuned Year 6-7 TIMELINE: 4th August: Secondary School notify parents/carers of Appeals outcome. A REMINDER: By 11th August: A reminder that Year 7 Placement Acceptance slips have to be returned to Oak Park Primary School. Buckley Park Secondary College 2027 STEAM Academy Expression of Interest process is open. If any students will be transitioning to Buckley Park College in 2027, once they have been enrolled for 2027, they will be eligible to apply for our STEAM Academy.
