ANZAC Day Dawn Service
My Dawn Service Experience

Last week on Anzac Day, my family and I went to go pay our respects by attending a Dawn Service at our local RSL in Glenroy. It was very dark because it was very early in the morning, and at the RSL there was a large Cenotaph to remember and pay respects to those who have served in the war. The police blocked off the street, and there were hundreds of people lining the street to attend the ceremony.
During the service there were several speeches from RSL members, current serving soldiers and members of government. After the speeches, the New Zealand and Australian anthems were sung, the last post was played on a bugle and then a minutes silence was held. Then after the minutes silence, I got to lay down a wreath that the school had organised. I felt very honoured to take part in the ceremony on behalf of the school.

Successful First Curriculum Day with Berry St Education Model
Picture
Our staff have kicked off their Berry St Education Model (BSEM) training with a highly successful first curriculum day on April 24th, the first of four scheduled sessions in 2025 (July 4th, August 14th, and 15th to follow).

BSEM focuses on creating a trauma-informed classroom through five key areas: body, relationship, stamina, engagement, and character, equipping teachers with practical strategies like morning check-ins and brain breaks to support students in regulating emotions, building resilience, and staying engaged—especially those facing challenges.

Our staff embraced the training with enthusiasm, we’re excited to see how BSEM will continue to shape our classroom and wellbeing routines as the year progresses, and we’ll keep you updated on the impact.

Staffing Updates for Year 3/4A and 5/6M
We are delighted to welcome two new teaching staff members to our school: Leah Townsend and Madison Sevastidis. Leah officially commenced today with 3/4A, having spent the first two weeks of Term 2 ensuring a thorough handover from Fabia. We wish Fabia all the best as she begins her maternity leave and look forward to a visit from her soon. Madison has also been working with the school and will start in the classroom next week with 5/6M, as Maree prepares to go on maternity leave next Friday. We extend a warm welcome to Leah and Madison and wish Maree and Fabia well on their upcoming journey into motherhood.

Kind regards,

Michael Gill

SENIOR SCHOOL YEARS
Grade 5/6 Fraction Fun
In 5/6 this week we began exploring Angles. As a fun immersive activity, we used coloured tape and whiteboard markers to turn our tables into an angle art piece. All students had a go at estimating, measuring, and identifying angles within the table artwork. It was so much fun!
