WHAT'S HAPPENING @ OAK PARK
WHOLE SCHOOL
Concert Reveal
Picture
Oak Park Primary School is so excited to share that our concert production this year is Shrek Jr.! At our last assembly for the term, all Oak Park Primary staff came together, dressed up and put on a show for all students and the community to reveal the concert theme for 2026! It is such a great tradition here at Oak Park Primary that the staff show the students that having a go and having fun is all part of the experience.

Rehearsals will begin for all grades next term. We have plenty of time to learn songs and dance sequences so all students feel confident performing in September.

Please put the concert dates in your diaries. It is the highlight of the school calendar and all students are required to perform on both nights!

Grade 5/6 Main Character Auditions
After the assembly, all Grade 5/6 students received an audition pack that included scripts, songs and the assessment rubric that will be used for auditions. All information was also posted on every student Seesaw accounts on their iPads. Students are encouraged to learn the script and songs over the holidays.

Sign-ups for main characters will take place in Term 2, Week 2 (after camp), and auditions will be held in Week 3. Good luck to all students auditioning!

I’m sure there will be plenty of happy families watching Shrek over the holidays and hearing ‘I’m a Believer’ blasting from car speakers.

We are all so excited to begin rehearsals in Term 2!

EARLY YEARS NEWS
Foundation
The 1st April wouldn’t be complete without an April Fools Day prank!  The Foundation students and Grade 1 S/T walked into their classrooms on Wednesday to find their chairs were missing!  They had been donated to a school that was less fortunate than ours so we would just have to kneel or stand at our tables.  The news was received with some confusion, but what resilient students we have, they got straight on with their day kneeling or standing to complete their morning task.  It was a case of survival of the fittest in FS when one lone chair was discovered, with Imogen beating the hoards to get to it first!

There was a massive sigh of relief (and “I knew it!”) when the April Fools Day prank was revealed, as too were the chairs.
Well done Foundation and Grade 1 S/T kids!

Grade 1
Our Grade 1 students have been exploring the writer’s process as they created their own narrative stories. They focused on using adjectives to describe their settings and developed characters by thinking about both their external features and internal qualities. Students worked hard to include a clear problem and solution in their stories, building engaging narratives from beginning to end. After revising and editing, they proudly published their work.

To celebrate, the students visited the Foundation classes to read their stories aloud. We are so proud of their efforts—have a look at their fantastic work!

Join us for a Year 7 2027 Information Session

Interested parents and carers are invited to attend one of our Year 7 2027 Information Sessions, where you will gain a deeper understanding of what your child’s transition to secondary school will look like.
During these sessions, BSC community members will describe:
  • our approach to supporting students as they move into secondary school
  • the key academic and wellbeing programs that underpin the Year 7 experience
  • enrichment and extracurricular opportunities at our school
The evening will also feature a panel-style Q&A component, and families also have the opportunity to submit questions prior to the event. The Information Sessions are designed to provide clarity, answer frequently asked questions, and help families feel confident as they move to the next stage of their child’s education journey.
To make it easier for families to attend, we are offering a choice between two identical information sessions.   Thursday April 23 @ 6.00pm OR Monday April 27 @6.00pm
Please note that families need only attend one of these sessions.
Families and students are warmly welcome: we look forward to showcasing the opportunities that await at our college.

Visual Arts
In the Spotlight - Grade 3/4 Artwork Focus
Our Grade 3/4 students explored the vibrant and playful style of Romero Britto. Britto is a contemporary Brazilian artist known for his bold black outlines, bright colours, and joyful patterns such as stripes, dots, and hearts, combining elements of Pop Art and Cubism to create artworks that celebrate positivity and fun.

Inspired by his unique approach, students created their own Pop Art animal artworks, choosing an animal that was meaningful or interesting to them, including pets like dogs or cats or perhaps indigenous or exotic animals. They began by sketching their animal using simple shapes, before dividing both the animal and background into sections with strong black lines. Each section was then filled with a different pattern, encouraging creativity and variety, and carefully coloured using bright markers and pencils to create contrast and visual interest.

Through this artist focus, students developed their skills in line, shape, pattern, and colour, while building confidence in their creative choices. The artworks below are bold, expressive and full of personality, which shows the wonderful creativity of only a few of the students here at the school.
