School Review - Day 1 Update
We had a successful and collaborative Day 1 for our School Review, a process that occurs every four years in government schools. A sincere thank you to our staff and community for your openness and professionalism during the classroom observations and focus groups held this week. The review panel were impressed by our calm classroom environments and the strong instructional practice evident across the school. It was a really positive and collaborative experience; the panel specifically commented on how much they enjoyed being in our learning spaces and seeing our students at work. We are looking forward to the final day next week to build on this great momentum. Day 2 will take place next Thursday, 4th July. Thank you again to our staff, students, and families for your hard work and for making the panel feel so welcome in our school. Open Streets Active Travel 2026 – Join Us June 11th!
Our Open Streets active travel initiative is continues and we are looking forward to keeping the momentum going. This program encourages students, families, and staff to walk, cycle, and scoot to school. All healthy, sustainable alternatives to driving, made possible with Merri-Bek Council’s support.
Please come to Summit Ave from 8:20 am in the morning and 3:30 pm after school. Skipping, games, chalk and bike riding are all welcome in the street. We have a new coffee cart coming to the event on the 11th. They’ll be serving from just inside the school gates on Summit Avenue. Please make the Capuchin Monk Pop-Up Coffee Cart welcome and well patronised, we’d like to keep future events well caffeinated! Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal WHAT'S HAPPENING @ OAK PARK

Milo Monkey’s Birthday
Today your child is bringing home an invitation to the biggest event this term. Forget the Met Gala, this is Milo Monkey’s Birthday party! Leave the daggy teal and navy at home, it’s Little Learners Love Literacy character costumes all the way! We have provided a list of characters on the back of the invitation (just in case you’re not up to date with the latest who’s who). Details will follow shortly outlining the activities for the day. A copy of the invitation is attached. Please contact your classroom Foundation - Bread Baking
We have a bunch of budding bakers in the making! As part of our Inquiry topic, ‘From Paddock to Plate’, the Foundation students baked bread yesterday and it was a huge success! The dough was made in the morning, and we watched it rise till lunchtime. The bread was baked and enjoyed warm with a lathering of butter after recess. We used our senses to describe the bread with ‘delicious, golden and crunchy’ some of the great adjectives used to describe the bread. Naya also exclaimed that we should do this every day! The students have asked that I share the recipe we followed so they can bake it again at home. We used the ‘Worlds Easiest Yeast Bread Recipe – Artisan No Knead’ by Recipe Tin Eats, which is readily available online. We’d love to hear about it if you have a go at home! School Nursing Program
It’s now time to commence the Foundation School Nursing program entrant Health questionnaire. Forms have been sent out this week to all Foundation families so they may access the School Nursing Program. This is an online format and each Foundation students family has received a postcard with information and a QR code to scan to access the questionnaire online. A limited number of paper questionnaires are available from the office. All questionnaires need to be completed by June 1st, and all families are encouraged to participate in the program. Grade 1

Shrek Jnr- First Read Through
What a fantastic start to our school production of Shrek Jnr! On a wet weather day this week, the cast gathered together in the library for the very first read through of the show. Sitting together in a large circle, students read the script scene by scene and began bringing the characters to life with expression, accents, and plenty of enthusiasm. There were lots of laughs as students heard the storyline unfold for the first time and experimented with the different voices and personalities of the characters. It was wonderful to have the whole cast together and see students growing in confidence as they explored their roles. Next week, the cast will meet again as a whole group before rehearsals begin in smaller scene groups with different teachers. Well done to all students involved on such a successful first rehearsal, and thank you to Steph (our Assistant Director) for giving time to make this rehearsal happen! This term, the Grade 5/6 students have been learning how to describe objects, animals and characters in Japanese using simple sentence structures and adjectives. Students explored vocabulary to describe colours, size, appearance and personality traits. To demonstrate their learning in a fun and creative way, students have designed their own original characters inspired by aspects of popular Japanese culture, including anime and mascot characters. The students are using Japanese sentences to describe their characters’ appearance, personality, likes and dislikes. It has been wonderful to see the imaginative characters students have been designing and we are happy to share some of their fantastic character designs below! Secondary College Tours
