Family Picnic Night
We are looking forward to our upcoming Family Picnic Night, where our students will be sharing the festive spirit by performing Christmas songs. This event is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate the end of the year, and enjoy a relaxed evening outdoors. Event Details Date: Thursday 4 December Time: Arrive from 4:30pm. Singing will begin at 5:00pm. Location: School Oval Families are welcome to bring their own picnic, or you may enjoy a range of food options available on the night. Our sausage sizzle and drinks will be on offer, and we are excited to welcome several new food trucks this year, serving donuts, ice-creams and iced drinks. It promises to be a fun, family-friendly evening with plenty of space to relax, enjoy good food and share in the company of others. While students will be supervised by teachers during their carol performance, parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children for the remainder of the event. We kindly ask that children are not dropped off without an accompanying adult. Family Picnic Night is also a wonderful chance to meet other families, including new members of our community. And keep an eye out, you never know when Santa might make a surprise appearance! We warmly encourage you to bring the whole family, enjoy the sunshine, and join us in celebrating the end of the year. We look forward to seeing you there! Open Streets
Our final Open Streets event for the year was a wonderful success. After three positive events earlier in 2025, this concluding session brought our school community together once again to enjoy a safe, car-free Summit Avenue. On Thursday, 27 November, Summit Avenue was turned into a safe space for riding, scooting and play. Students and families embraced the opportunity to travel actively and enjoy the outdoors, with many supporting the small business Thanks a Latte coffee van. The Open Streets program has continued to encourage fun, healthy and sustainable travel choices throughout the year, made possible with the ongoing support of Merri-Bek Council. We extend our warmest thanks to the volunteers who assisted on these days. Your time and dedication helped ensure the event ran smoothly. Special appreciation goes to Phil, Prateek, Sue, Melanie, Gautam, Ramneet and Sally for their wonderful support. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making Open Streets such a successful and valued initiative this year. Staffing Update – Staff Leaving for 2026
We have a number of staff leaving our school in 2026 and wanted to provide some context to the community. Next week, we’ll announce some new staff joining us in 2026 and provide further detail about their interests and experiences prior to joining OPPS.
Further personal acknowledgement of leaving staff is planned for the end of year assembly. WHAT'S HAPPENING @ OAK PARK

Working with Children Check
We have quite a few families whose Working with Children Check card is now expired. All visitors and helpers to the school are required to have a current working with children check, and a copy must be given to the front office. If you have recently updated your card, please ensure a copy is forwarded to the office either via email, or shown at the office. If your card has expired, you are unable to be a volunteer/helper within the school until you have re-applied. All visitors signing in, must input their Working with Children Check number on the Compass kiosk. Visitors to the School
ALL visitors to the school MUST enter via the front office and sign in via the Compass Kiosk. This is not required when dropping your children off prior to 9am or picking them up after school at 3.30pm. We are finding that we have family members/friends entering the school via the back gates just to drop in and talk to their child during school times and lunch/recess. Please do not do this unless you have entered via the front office and spoken to the staff. Thank you for your consideration. Return of Library Books
It would be appreciated if all books could now be returned to the school. In the next week or two, overdue notices will be sent home. Please look for the book, if you are unable to locate it please contact me via email so that I can amend our records. Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Foundation Zoo Excursion
The Foundation students had a wild time at the Melbourne Zoo on Wednesday 26th November. Ominous grey clouds greeted us as we drove into the carpark, and the rain started just as we got off the bus! Wet and soggy we made it to shelter and had our fruit snack until it subsided somewhat. Absolute credit to the students, no one complained about being cold and wet – there were too many exciting things to do and see. They explored different habitats in the learning centre, some got to see the lions being fed, the seals being trained and some even saw the elusive platypus! Shout out to Nyla who managed to spot even the most hidden animals and a highlight was Ripley’s reaction to finding the snow leopard! I think the whole Melbourne Zoo heard her when she found it! There were a few tired bodies at the end, but it was a fun day had by all. Big thanks to the parent helpers who attended, Chanel, Melissa and Christina. Grade 1 Fun Night
Grade 1/2 Fun Night Reminder - Friday 28th November A friendly reminder that our Grade 1/2 Fun Night is coming up soon on Friday, 28th November. Please note that payment is due by Wednesday, 26th November. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s classroom teacher. The Grade 1 Team. Grade 2 Sleepover
Last week, students were given the packing list for our Grade 2 Sleepover on Friday 28 November 2025. This packing list outlines the essential and necessary items that your child will need for the sleepover, and the next morning. Due to limited space, we ask that students only bring items needed for one night. Nothing extra is required. Please support your child over the coming weeks by practising how to roll up their sleeping bag and pack their belongings into their bag. This will help them feel confident and organised on the day. Medication forms will be sent home in the week of the sleepover. These forms must be completed and returned with any medication on the day of the sleepover. The medication will need to be sealed in zip lock bag and named. From Monday, each Grade 2 classroom will have a question box. We encourage you to chat with your child over the weekend and help them write down any questions or worries they may have. These can be placed in the question box and can be anonymous if preferred. Teachers will go through the questions with the whole cohort (no names mentioned) so that everyone feels informed and reassured. If there are any specific circumstances regarding your child’s sleeping needs, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible so we can support them. We strongly encourage all Grade 2 students to attend the sleepover. It promises to be lots of fun and a wonderful opportunity to build confidence and resilience in preparation for future camps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to get in touch. The Grade 2 Team Demi, Jordan, Kathy and Alex SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS
