Principal's Column
A Big Thank You for Student-Led Conferences!
We extend our thanks to every teacher, student and family who participated in the recent student-led conferences. It was wonderful to see students proudly showcase their Semester 1 successes, demonstrating their hard work and growth.
These sessions provided a valuable opportunity for parents to engage in meaningful discussions about their child’s learning journey. Your attendance and enthusiasm are appreciated, especially on a wet and wintery day.
Successful Open Streets and Dr Cranky’s Visits
Thanks to everyone that enjoyed the Open Streets event this Thursday. It was great to see so many students enjoy play outside before and after school on Summit Avenue. Massive thanks to all our volunteers who make the events possible, so thank you to Prateek, Ramneet from Team Kids, Melanie, Sally and Amy for their time and support.

I am happy to also recognise the efforts of Dr Cranky, the local bike repair workshop, for their outstanding contributions. Across two separate visits to our school, they generously donated 7 bikes to our community, completed an impressive 43 bike repairs, and gifted 8 locks and 6 helmets to students. These efforts have not only kept wheels turning but also enhanced safety and accessibility for our young riders. A huge thanks to Bart and his dedicated team for their hard work, and a special shoutout to Merri-Bek Council for funding this fantastic initiative!

EARLY YEARS NEWS
Grade 2
In Grade 2, we have been learning about procedures and how to follow step-by-step instructions.
To bring this learning to life, the students made Iced Marie Biscuits! They had a wonderful time spreading icing on their biscuits and decorating them with mini marshmallows and sprinkles.
The activity was not only a fun way to practise procedural writing but was especially great when they got to eat their creations at the end!

Year 3/4
STATE LIBRARY OF VICTORIA – BOOK BASH
On Tuesday 24 June 2025, students in our five 3/4 classrooms were lucky enough to take part in a Zoom session with Anh Do, sponsored by the State Library of Victoria. Anh Do was gracious in answering student questions and he shared with us how he always likes to use real life experiences, like his daughter talking to her soft toys, to create his stories (this was the impetus for Wolf Girl).

Anh Do reminded students that it was important to always think ahead when writing, is there something serious, sad, funny or scary happening in the next page or so? If yes, this is how we keep readers engaged in our writing. Students will also get the chance to take part in Amelia Mellor’s writing workshop on Thursday morning and after a busy morning, they are looking forward to it.

Below are a few characters that were created by our 3/4 students, using Anh Do’s worksheet.

Calling All 1.125L and 2L Plastic Bottles – Art Show Preparation for Grade 1 and 2 Students
As part of our exciting Great Southern Land – Beach to Bush Art Show in Term 3, all Grade 1 and 2 students will be creating a special artwork that requires a 1.125L or 2L plastic bottle (such as soft drink bottles).

We kindly ask that each child in Grade 1 or 2 brings one clean, empty bottle to school and gives it directly to David, the Art Teacher, no later than Friday 4th August (The bottles can be dropped off at the art room any time or your child may bring it to their weekly art class).
If you happen to have any extra bottles at home, we would greatly appreciate donations to help support families who do not purchase plastic bottles.

Thank you for supporting our creative preparations – we can’t wait to share these artworks with you in Term 4 at our big event!

Performing Arts
Grade 5/6 Production of
Puss in Boots
This week, our Grade 5/6 students put on a fantastic performance of Puss in Boots for our Foundation classes. The play brought the classic fairy tale to life, with colourful costumes, entertaining dialogue, and lots of laughter along the way.

The Foundation students were excited to learn that the original story of Puss in Boots comes from Italy, and they loved meeting all the memorable characters, including the King, the Princess, the Ogre, the Villagers, and even the scary Lion!

After the performance, our Foundation students had the chance to ask the cast questions about their characters, costumes, and how they remembered all their lines. It was wonderful to see our oldest students sharing their talents and bringing joy to the youngest members of our school community.

A big congratulations to the Grade 5/6 students for their hard work and energy, and thank you for making storytime come to life in such a fun and creative way!
