Principal's Column
Thank You for an Amazing OPPS Art Show 2025! We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible success of the 'Great Southern Land- Beach to Bush' Art Show on Thursday. With over 400 adult tickets sold and many student attendees, the event was a triumph. A huge thank you for the fantastic t-shirt sales, with designs flying off the shelves and personalised t-shirts to come, expertly managed by Phil Callaghan. The sausage sizzle sold out, delighting families with every bite. The silent auction was brilliant, featuring standout pieces from Ken Done, local artists, and Sheryl Hamilton’s quilt, raising spirits and funds. The bar was well-patroned, adding to the joyful atmosphere. Special thanks to Dave Flint for leading the event with dedication. Gratitude to Phil Callaghan for the t-shirt printing stand. A big thank you to Sue, John, Marika, and all PFA members for the sausage sizzle, bar, raffle, and silent auctions. A huge thank you to teachers and education support staff for their helping during the week, on the night and during pack up today. This success reflects the support of every family and friend who joined us. Your presence made the showcase of student artwork, raffles, and framed keepsakes a memorable night. I also thank everyone that provided positive feedback to myself and staff on the night – it was lovely to hear the endorsement and acknowledgement of a brilliant event. Upcoming Professional Practice Days – Friday 31st October and Monday November 3rd.
As part of our ongoing commitment to quality teaching and learning, our staff will participate in upcoming Professional Practice Days to support assessment and report writing. This is part of the current industrial agreement for teachers. While we have already used our five allocated student-free days this year to complete Berry Street Training, these days will allow teaching teams dedicated time to prepare for Semester 2 reports. The school will remain open on Friday, 31 October and Monday, 3 November. On Friday, Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 teachers will be engaged in report preparation, and on Monday, this will apply to Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 teachers. Replacement teachers will be on-site, and an alternative learning program will operate on Friday for the Junior School and on Monday for the Senior school. Time with family is important, we understand that many families take advantage of the long weekend around Cup Day and attendance is lower on these days. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal WHAT'S HAPPENING @ OAK PARK

Foundation Breakfast
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Who doesn’t love pancakes dripping in maple syrup? Slurping down an ice cold OJ or apple juice? Lounging around all day in your pjs? Sounds perfect! Well, that’s what we have planned for our Foundation Breakfast on Wednesday 12th November for only $2 per child. The students are so excited and of course, we NEED wonderful parent helpers to ensure the pancakes are flipped, maple syrup is flowing and fruit is sliced and diced! If you have a valid Working with Children’s Check and are available from 7:40am (sleep ins are overrated…) then please contact your child’s teacher – but hurry, places are limited! Please see attached invitation for further details. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Kate, Jasmyn and Sarah MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Grade 3/4
Webex with Tom and Sophie from BECA On Tuesday 21st October, students across the 3/4 cohort were treated to a fantastic presentation by Tom (Clara’s dad) and his colleague Sophie who spoke about their world as civil engineers. Tom and Sophie began the presentation with introducing Loto, the clever engineer from Moana 2 who constantly tinkers and changes to make the boat better – and in a nutshell, this is what engineers do. Students were instantly hooked. Tom shared the process of building bridges and all the areas engineers have to think of - as will the structure withstand heavy weight, the forces of nature and if the maths they have used is correct. Students were very excited about the idea of apps being used to build models and test them as well, many asked if they could access an engineering application. Sophie shared that engineering pipelines was her passion and they require precise planning as usually they are under roads where people drive and walk on. She spoke about how they plan pipes to be able to be accessible in case something goes wrong or the pipe has to be checked. Both speakers shared the importance of teamwork and getting input from relevant stakeholders. For example, Wurundjeri people had input into a project based on their knowledge of the waterways and natural resources. Both presenters highlighted the importance of sustainability and safety in all projects – areas that we are focusing on in our unit. Many students wanted to know how they could become engineers and our presenters said for our 3/4s, they really needed to focus in Maths and Science classes, which made us teachers smile. The presentation ran over time and we are grateful that Tom and Sophie could share their knowledge and time with our 3/4 cohort. SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS
