Planned Open Streets – Thursday November 28th We have an upcoming Open Street event planned for Thursday November 28th. These events allow us to own Summit Avenue, before and after school for play, skipping and cycling. We’d love to see a great turn for our final event this year.
We’d love to continue to host these events in 2025, but need more volunteers for the initiative to continue. To assist, the only requirements are a free 2 hour on-site training course and a Working with Children’s check, which are also free online. On the day, supporting either a morning (8:00-9:00AM) or an afternoon (3:00-4:00PM) would be a valued contribution. If you’d like to get trained and assist please email me. Thanks to Sally, Amy and Melanie. I would like to take a moment to sincerely thank Sally, Amy, and Melanie for their outstanding leadership and dedication during my recent long service leave. Their commitment to ensuring the smooth running of Oak Park Primary School has been remarkable, and I am deeply grateful for their hard work and professionalism. It is a privilege to work alongside such capable and passionate leaders who consistently go above and beyond to support our school. Thank you, Sally, Amy, and Melanie, for your exemplary leadership and for everything you do to make Oak Park Primary School the special place it is. Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal WHAT'S HAPPENING @ OAK PARK

Our final transition session for 2025 Foundation students starting at Oak Park Primary School will be on Wednesday 18th December. For our new Foundation students, transition is from 9.30am – 10.30am. They will have an opportunity to meet their Grade 6/2025 buddies as well as their teacher. New Foundation students are reminded to bring a teddy bear (or similar) for their teddy bear picnic with their buddies. All other Oak Park Primary School students (including new students who are starting at Oak Park Primary next year in years other than foundation) will be meeting their new 2025 teacher and classmates from 10 – 11am. Congratulations
Former Oak Park Student (graduate 2022), Elliot Mohummadally took part in a Shark Tank Business Pitch event in Flemington on the 20th of November 2024. The Maribyrnong and Moonee Valley Local Learning and Employment Network is an organization that helps young people transition from school to work and the Young Australian People group ran the Shark Tank Event. Elliot was pitching his business, which is creating websites for small business owners. He was able to prove he had identified the market need, created a business plan and had already made free websites for a few businesses to trial his system. The judges asked probing questions ranging from technical questions on software design, to business growth as well as how will he adapt to market trends. Elliot answered them all. When the final winner was announced, Elliot was the first-place winner with $1000 towards his website design business (WebCraft Solutions). All other contestants were at least 10-15 years older than him, but this didn’t phase Elliot with his pitch. When not pitching business ideas, Elliot is in Year 8. Well done Elliot! P.F.A. News

Natural Disaster Shape Poetry: This term in 5/6 we have been writing poetry. We have followed the writing process to write poems with a natural disaster theme which aligns with our Inquiry topic for the term We are so proud of all students for their efforts in developing such descriptive, emotive poems that capture the heart and soul of natural disasters and their impact on our world. Here are a few of the amazing shape poems from this: SPECIALIST
Physical Education
As we enter our final weeks of 2024, I am reflecting on what a successful year it was for all of OPPS’ little athletes and how proud I am of all their achievements. We have spent the last 7 weeks learning and refining our tennis skills in class and competing in little games against peers. It was so awesome watching all the kids fall in love with tennis, just in time for the Aus Open in the summer. I hope this newfound understanding of the game helps to embrace this fantastic sport! In other news, interschool sport competition wrapped up last week with our Regional Finals for Basketball and Cricket. Our students competed against some superb talent and got a good taste of what it takes to compete at the highest levels. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to the state championships, but we are so proud of all the efforts from the kids this year. And to all the departing grade 6 students- we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours. The future is certainly very bright Visual Arts
Grade 5/6 Technology in the Art Room Grade 5 and 6 students have been introduced to the world of 3D Pen technology in the Art Program. They are working on their self portraits and including their name in a font of their choice. It’s been a bit of a challenge getting used to how the pens function, but the students have improved their technique this week and they are making some great progress. The energy and concentration being demonstrated by the students has been fantastic to witness. If time permits, we will venture into crafting some 3D objects of various kinds to finish off a wonderful year. The Grade 6 portraits will be on display at the graduation ceremony, along with a portrait of their teachers being immortalised in plastic filament. Community News
