WHAT'S HAPPENING @ OAK PARK
WHOLE SCHOOL
Principal's Column
A Huge Thank You for an Amazing Oak Park Athletics Day! Huge thanks to all the teachers, education staff and volunteers who made our recent Oak Park Athletics Day a resounding success! We had perfect weather conditions, the day was filled with positive student behaviour and enthusiasm, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere.
A special congratulations to Blue House for their well-deserved win on the day—your teamwork shone brightly! The effort and support from our staff and volunteers were key to this memorable event, and we’re so appreciative of everyone who contributed to making it a fantastic celebration of sport and community. Student Representative Council Shapes Future Playground Design
Oak Park Primary School has recently consulted with our Student Representative Council (SRC) to gather valuable feedback on three proposed playground designs for the Year 3/4 area, slated for replacement at the beginning of 2026.
The SRC’s input has been helpful, offering insights into what suits their needs and preferences, ensuring the new playground will be a space they love. Their thoughtful suggestions—ranging from climbing structures to open play areas—have helped us narrow down the options, and we’re excited to select a design that reflects their vision. A huge thank you to the SRC for their active role in shaping this exciting upgrade! Kind regards, Michael Gill Principal Assembly Timetable
Wear it Purple Day
Friday 29th August: At Oak Park Primary School we value inclusive practices to ensure that everyone in our community is made to feel welcome. We believe everyone deserves to be acknowledged and feel that they belong. At Oak Park Primary we have a range of supportive inclusive practices including, implementing the Department of Education’ Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, our Wellbeing Hub, Zoe our Wellbeing Dog, SEL groups and lunchtime clubs, just to name a few. Wear it Purple shares the same goals of Australian school systems in providing the foundation for Inclusive Education of which all students can take part. We share the same goal of ensuring that we create a safe, caring school environment in which students are nurtured as they learn while recognising the diversity within the school community and providing programs and support which acknowledge differences to promote harmony. Under the ‘Every Student is Known, Valued and Cared For’ strategic framework, it is paramount that schools establish and sustain structures to support student individual wellbeing. Adapting Wear it Purple as a whole school collaborative effort makes a clear message to students and the local community: we accept students for who they are and believe all students should feel a sense of belonging in our community. Wear It Purple Day is a great opportunity to teach students about the importance of respect, kindness, equality and inclusion. Students and Staff are encouraged to wear a splash of purple on Friday the 29th of August to show their support. Students can wear their school uniform on the day if that is preferred. Fire Fighters Visit As part of our Inquiry unit about Community Helpers, the Foundation students received a visit from the Pascoe Vale Fire Unit on Monday 11th and Monday 18th August. The students learnt a lot of new facts, built upon their emergency services knowledge (although, when did plumbers become an emergency service?) and were able to walk through and explore the fire truck. They all know to ring 000 in an emergency, crawl down low and go go go if they find themselves with a fire nearby and are pretty handy with the hose! Thanks to Firemen Ray, Chris, Wayne and John, the kids had a great morning, and nobody got wet! Foundation Father's Day/Special Person's BBQ
On Wednesday, your child took home an invitation (attached) to our Foundation Father's Day BBQ. Each Foundation student can bring along a special person in their life to celebrate with. We will be having a BBQ and games on the oval. Date: Thursday the 4th of September Time: 2.45pm – 3.20pm For more details please see attached! We can't wait to celebrate with you, Kate, Jasmyn and Sarah MIDDLE YEAR NEWS

State Library of Victoria presents – Andy Griffiths on Zoom On Tuesday 19th August, students across the 3/4 cohort were excited as they had a Zoom session with Andy Griffiths and students from all over Victoria. Andy was an engaging storyteller and explained his process for creating a plot whilst he launched his latest book, ‘You & Me and the Peanut Butter Beast’. He spoke about how he imagines his characters on a never-ending adventure with plot twists and his illustrator for the book (Bill Hope) came up with the visuals to match the text. Students were then given a planner where they got to create a companion for their own adventure, a title and a drawing beneath the hole and what was at the bottom of the hole. Spoiler alert, the ‘Peanud Budda’ beast was at the bottom of Andy’s hole! Students spent time designing and creating the cover and many were inspired to use the work to create a narrative fiction story later in the term.
