The Great Book Swap
On the Tuesday 19th August 2025, Oak Park Primary School will be participating in The Great Book Swap! This event supports fundraising efforts for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a charity that provides culturally relevant reading materials to students in rural and remote communities around Australia. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with new reading materials, whilst contributing to a worthwhile fundraising event. Over the next 3 weeks, we ask students to bring in books from home, that they are happy to donate to the cause. Students can give any book donations in the drop off boxes next to the office. We will then conduct our Great Book Swap during lunchtime on Tuesday 19th of August 2025. Students are asked to bring in some money on the day and each book will be sold for $1 each. Book donations will be accepted at the office until Wednesday 13th August. Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to promote reading in our school and contribute to the important work of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation! Book Week Parade

Year 6-7 Transition
YEAR 6-7 TRANSITION TIMELINE: Tuesday 9th December: Secondary Schools host an Orientation Day for Year 6 students Year 5/6 Sovereign Hill
This week, our Year 5/6 students travelled back in time on a memorable excursion to Sovereign Hill, as part of our inquiry into Australia’s history from Colony to Federation. Immersed in the sights and sounds of the 1850s goldfields, we experienced the thrill of panning for gold, explored the depths of an underground mine, and took part in a lively re-enactment of the Eureka Stockade. We also watched a spectacular gold pouring demonstration and enjoyed a sweet visit to the Old Lollyshop, where toffee apples were a clear favourite. This hands-on experience brought stories from the Victorian Gold Rush to life, and we’re excited to continue exploring this fascinating chapter of Australia’s past. SPECIALISTS

Dance Semester Has Begun! This term in Performing Arts, it’s all about dance- and what a fantastic start we’ve had! All students, from our youngest to our seniors, are stepping, spinning, and stomping their way through an exciting cultural dance unit. Our junior students are diving into Australian Bushdancing and discovering the importance of dance in our Indigenous culture. They’re learning how dance has been used for storytelling, celebration, and connection for thousands of years. Meanwhile, our senior students are busy “Dancing Around the World”, exploring a variety of dance styles from different cultures. Each week will bring new steps, music, and traditions to experience and celebrate. To kick off the term, all students came together to learn the famous Australian bushdance, the Heel and Toe Polka- and what a fantastic time we had! There was laughter, plenty of spinning, and even a few fancy moves. We can’t wait to see the skills, teamwork, and joy that will come from this term’s dance journey. Watch this space for more photos and updates as we continue dancing our way around Australia – and the world! If you want to dance the Heel and Toe at home, here is the version we used (junior students had the play speed reduced to 70%) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riZq0VKk5cg Visual Arts
