Oak Park Primary School Art Show
Picture
Our whole school Art Show is fast approaching, and the excitement is building across the school. Students from all year levels have been working hard in Art lessons, preparing creative masterpieces depicting this beautiful country we live in.

This will be our first Art Show for many years, and we are thrilled to make it a true celebration of creativity, community, and connection. The Art Show is a fundraising event, so it will be a ticketed evening for adults that attend. We are hoping to raise funds to assist with upgrading the school’s playgrounds.

Families are warmly invited to join us on:
When: Thursday October 23rd – 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Where: Oak Park Primary School Gymnasium

The evening will showcase student artwork, but also be plenty of fun for the whole family, including:
  • A Sausage Sizzle and drinks
  • A Silent Auction featuring artworks from Aussie icon Ken Done, local artists, ‘Yard Art’ bottle top murals and an Indigenous themed quilt (made by our very own Sheryl Hamilton).
  • A raffle with exciting art and local business hampers and vouchers.
  • As a special keepsake, every student/family that attends the Art Show, will receive one of their child’s artworks in a frame to take home at the conclusion of the show.
  • Purchase Art Show T-Shirts (4 different designs available) on the night of the art show from the t-shirt printing stall.
  • Order your child’s framed artwork printed on a T-shirt from the T-Shirt printing stall, kindly organised by Phil Callaghan (one of our parents at the school). Order forms will be available and t-shirt selection to also be done on the night of the show.

Silent Auction Highlight
We are honoured to announce that world-famous Australian artist Ken Done has generously donated two signed artworks to help fundraise for our school. These incredible pieces will be on display during the Art Show, and the highest bidders in the Silent Auction will take them home.

Sheryl Hamilton has also designed and created a beautiful Aboriginal themed quilt, seen below.

EARLY YEARS NEWS
Foundation Police Visit
It was a dramatic start to the week.  The Foundation students were handcuffed, fingerprinted and all sat in a Police car.  Good news, they were all released without charge!
We now, however, have an overwhelming number of students who want to be our next generation Police Officers thanks to the fun and entertaining visit from our resident Police representatives, Detective Seargent David, Acting Seargent Sarah (parents of Lucas) and Senior Constable Kevin from the Public Order Response Team. Thank you for coming out and explaining how the police help us in our community and for giving the students an amazing hands on experience.

Save the Date: Grade 1/2
Grade 1 Fun Night and Grade 2 Fun Night/Sleepover
We are excited to announce the upcoming Grade 1 Fun Night and Grade 2 Fun Night/ Sleepover, taking
place on Friday, November 28th, 2025!

We are looking for one parent helper per class to assist with the Fun Night.
Grade 1 parents will finish at 7:30pm, and Grade 2 parents will finish at 9:30pm. Additionally for the Grade 2 sleepover, we need two Grade 2 parent helpers to stay overnight, with a preference for dads to help with student ratios. Grade 2 parents that help with the fun night can also volunteer to stay overnight.

We also need at least 10 Grade 2 parent helpers to assist with setting up for breakfast on the Saturday morning. These parent helpers will need to arrive at school at around 6am.

All parents helpers that volunteer need to have a current Working With Children's Check (WWCC). Parents that have completed the parent helper course will be given first preference.

If you are interested in volunteering, please email your child’s classroom teacher.

More detailed information will be sent out early Term 4, but for now, please mark your calendars for this exciting event!
The Grade 1/2 Team.
MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS
Grade 2HM & 3/4M News
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)
On Monday 15th September, 2HM visited 34M. The topic for 34s in RRRR was help seeking behaviours and students in threes had come up with an 8-page picture story book that covered themes of coping with a challenge that produces a strong emotion like anger, fear, sadness or loneliness. Following this change or challenge, students then created a picture story book with the following guideline steps that they all followed:
a. an introduction to the character
b. a description of the challenge or upsetting situation
c. the main character’s emotional reaction
d. the main character’s physical or bodily reaction to the upset
e. an action the main character used to cope which did not work
f. a help-seeking action that did work
g. how they carried out the advice
h. the happier ending or resolution at the end.
Students published their work, illustrated it and in 7 groups of 3 students each, they shared their work with 2HM students. Many of the 2HM students had questions or comments on the stories – especially the illustrations.

SENIOR SCHOOL NEWS
Grade 5/6 Inquiry Expo
This week 5/6 students hosted their Inquiry Expo, showcasing what they learnt about Australia’s History: From Colonisation to Federation. Throughout Term 3, 5/6 students developed their understanding of this era through a range of learning experiences, including an excursion to Sovereign Hill. Students researched historic figures who played an important role in Australia’s development and shared their newfound knowledge in their published biographies. It was wonderful to display all that we have learnt at the Inquiry expo and thank you to all that attended.
