Student led-Conference
On Wednesday, 24th June 2026, we will be holding our student-led conferences. These take place after you have received your child’s Semester 1 report and provide an opportunity for you and your child to meet with the classroom teacher. Time slots will be available between 9:00am and 6:30pm and interviews will be scheduled at 15-minute intervals. This is a pupil-free day (no classes will be running), but your child is expected to attend their conference. If you require care for your child on the day, Team Kids will be operating. 5/6Y will have bookings available over 2 evenings (Tuesday 23rd June & Wed 24th June 2026). If the available times do not suit, please contact the classroom teacher to arrange an alternative time. To make a booking through the app, ensure you select the 3 bars in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (titled More). Then select ‘Conferences.’ A new page will appear, titled ‘Student-led Conferences Term 2 2026’. Once you have selected it, the teacher's name will appear on the screen and you will then be prompted to select the teacher and class and then you will see a drop-down box with the available times. Select your preferred time and then you will be asked to ‘Confirm Booking.’ Why are they called student-led conferences? The students will lead the start of the conference, showcasing their learning from Semester 1. Students in the junior grades (up to Grade 3/4) will use the Seesaw app to share their learning journey across a range of curriculum areas. Students in Grades 5/6 will use Google Classroom to present their learning. Will I get a chance to talk with my child’s teacher about how they are going? Yes. Once your child has shared their learning, you will have an opportunity to discuss their progress with the teacher. Please be mindful that your child will be present, so keep the conversation focused on celebrating their achievements and identifying future goals. Students will walk away feeling more confident if the focus is on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. How long does the conference go for? The conference lasts for 15 minutes. The student component will take approximately 5-7 minutes, with the remaining time allocated for discussion with the classroom teacher. We ask that you respect the short time frame, as delays can have a flow-on effect. For example, some families have back-to-back appointments with other teachers, and we don’t want anyone to miss their time slot. It may also impact the teacher’s ability to take a toilet or lunch break. If you feel more time is needed, please arrange an alternative time with the teacher to continue the conversation. Can I speak with the specialist teachers? Yes. Specialist teachers will not be taking bookings, but they will be available in the library for drop-in visits. You are not required to meet with them, but they will be available if you have any questions. How do I book a time with the classroom teacher? Bookings will be available via the Compass app from Friday 5th June 2026. If you have any trouble booking, please contact the office. While we are unable to book times for parents, we are always happy to help you navigate the booking function on the app. Principal's Column
Celebrating Outstanding NAPLAN Success at Oak Park Primary School
I am pleased to share some wonderful news with our school community regarding our interim NAPLAN data for 2026. This year's results have highlighted the incredible dedication, focus, and hard work of our students and staff. A milestone for Oak Park Primary School is our performance in Writing. This marks the first year in our school’s history that we have seen writing results climb into the 90% range for both cohorts, with an exceptional 97.92% of Year 3 students and 91.30% of Year 5 students achieving the highest bands of 'Strong' and 'Exceeding' proficiency. Alongside these figures, our exemplary Reading results continue to shine brightly across the school, with Year 5 reaching 89.36% and Year 3 at 80.85% in the top two proficiencies. While these high-reaching figures are impressive, the most significant and rewarding takeaway from this data reflects our commitment to inclusive education. Across these assessments, our school featured either zero or only a single student in the 'Needs Additional Support' proficiency level. This is a profound testament to our school's core mission: ensuring that every single child is supported, scaffolded, and empowered to achieve their absolute personal best. A comprehensive breakdown of our 'Strong' and 'Exceeding' performance data across Numeracy, Reading, and Writing can be found in the accompanying data table, An achievement of this scale does not happen by accident. I would like to extend a thank you to our fantastic classroom teachers for their intentional curriculum planning, and to our dedicated Education Support staff whose targeted intervention and daily care ensure no student is left behind. Most importantly, congratulations to our brilliant Year 3 and Year 5 students. Ongoing AEU Industrial Action – Student Reports Due to the current Victorian Government Schools Agreement (VGSA) negotiations, a union-enforced ban on providing written comments on student reports remains strictly in place across the state. Consequently, student reports this semester will look a little different. All reports will continue to feature our standard checklist items and clear progression levels for learning areas and specialist subjects, showing exactly where your child is sitting against the curriculum. However, no individual written comments will be included by Australian Education Union (AEU) members. We greatly appreciate our community's patience and understanding as our staff navigate this state-wide industrial action. Our student-led conferences next week provide a further opportunity celebrate learning and hear further feedback from teachers regarding student achievement. Lunch Orders
A reminder there will be NO LUNCH ORDERS next Friday 26th June (last day of the Term) or the first Friday of Term 3, Friday 17th July. A reminder that cut-off time for ordering lunch orders is 10;30am on the Thursday prior “I would like to sincerely thank everyone for your continued support. Now in my fourth year providing lunches for your children, the demand has become overwhelming and I’m finding it increasingly difficult to keep up with production on my own. To help maintain quality and ensure I can continue meeting orders, I will be sourcing my sweet treats and pizzas from General Jnr on Gaffney Street. All products are delicious and made from scratch. This change will help ease some of the pressure while allowing me to continue providing fresh delicious lunches and reliable service. I’ve tried to keep prices down with slight increases but as supplier costs continue rising there will most probably be another increase this year as a result. OPPS PFA Movie Night
The OPPS Parents and Friends Association is excited to present: OPPS Annual Movie Night featuring Shrek Thursday 23 July at 5:30pm Location: OPPS Gym Tickets are $10 per school-aged child (payable at the door by cash or card) and include popcorn and a drink. Children under the age of 5 and parents/guardian adult attends free. Bring along your blankets, cushions and favourite movie snacks, then settle in for a fun-filled night with friends and family. Please note: This is not a drop-off event. All children must be supervised by a parent or guardian 18+ We look forward to seeing you there for a swamp-load of laughs! 
Australian Mathematics Competition 2026
Oak Park Primary School is excited to provide students with the opportunity to challenge themselves mathematically and be recognised for their achievement through participation in the Australian Mathematics Competition. The competition is open to interested students in Grades 3-6 and will be held on Tuesday 4th August 2026. Interschool Chess
Our Term 2 tournament was won by Jamie S and Showa J who took out Equal 1st place with 6 points from their 7 games. Equal third place was shared by Emir G, Monty D and Daniel L. The Most Improved Player medal went to Asper C. In the weeks following the tournament we played a Quad Tournament (a four player round robin where players play the 3 other players in their quad - all of whom are similar strength to them. The top quad was won by Charvi B with 2.5/3 with Emir G coming second with 2/3. Next Wednesday, OPPS are hosting a large interschool chess tournament with 109 registered players. Amongst that field are 14 OPPS students. In Term 1, our tournament was won by Jamie S and Charvi B (equal 1st) with Emir G and Showa J finishing equal 3rd. Asim A took out the Most Improved prize, while Ellie T and Mirza K shared the Best New Player medal (equal 1st). If you would like to join chess in Term 3, you are absolutely welcome! It can be hard at the start, but it's fun and very rewarding! Even if you don't win a medal, I give out stickers each week as mini-prizes. Students can win stickers for things like beating a strong player, winning with a checkmate they have been taught, demonstrating knowledge, or even just putting up a good fight in a loss to a stronger player. Most students win stickers at least 2-3 times per term. Fantastic Farm Day for Foundation
A great day was had by all at the Animal Land Children’s Farm in Diggers Rest on Wednesday 17th July. It was our first excursion to the farm, and the Foundation students represented the teal and navy perfectly with exemplary behaviour and manners, making us all extremely proud. The day started on a high, with travel to the farm on a double decker bus and zero car sickness! Thank goodness for gumboots because we were greeted by mud, horses, mud, goats and a bit more mud. We worked on our step count, had pony rides and tractor rides as well as amazing encounters with an array of farm animals including sheep, ducks, chickens, cows, ponies and cute baby animals in the nursery. There were so many highlights, here are just a few:
School Nursing Program
Reminder – Don’t forget to return the Health Questionnaire for your Foundation Child It’s now time to commence the Foundation School Nursing program entrant Health questionnaire. Forms have been sent out this week to all Foundation families so they may access the School Nursing Program. This is an online format and each Foundation students family has received a postcard with information and a QR code to scan to access the questionnaire online. A limited number of paper questionnaires are available from the office. All questionnaires need to be completed by June 1st, and all families are encouraged to participate in the program.

Shrek Jr The Musical F - 2 Colouring Competition Students in Foundation, Grade 1 and Grade 2 are invited to participate in a colouring competition based on the upcoming Shrek Junior school concert. This is not a compulsory activity. Students that wish to enter the competition are going to be bringing home an A3 sized colouring page (pictured above), to complete over the coming weeks. Students can collect a colouring sheet when attending their art classes, or they can pop by the art room at lunchtime, recess, before or after school to collect one if they were absent for their weekly art lesson. Artwork entries for the competition are due back to David (OPPS Art teacher) or the Art Room no later than Thursday the 23rd of July. Shrek Jr. The Musical: School Concert Poster Competition (Grades 3-6)
Our school concert spectacular Shrek Jr The Musical is fast approaching. It’s time for students from Grades 3-6 to get their creative wizardry fired up, to create a poster that represents all things Shrek Jr. to be used to advertise the concert on the Clocktower Centre website and for posters. Students will be given the opportunity to begin their designs during an art lesson in Week 4 of Term 2. After this, students will take home what they started to continue finishing it off.
