Changes to Maths Reporting, Three becomes one! The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0). All Victorian government schools will start using the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 in 2024 or 2025. At Oak Park we are using the revised mathematics curriculum for school reporting from Semester 1 2025. On your child's previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score. As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard. The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas. Some students’ previous strengths (e.g. Statistics and Probability) might not be obvious in an aggregated result. As a school, we have completed professional learning and worked hard to triangulate our learning data, using at least three different forms of assessment to produce the aggregated Mathematics result for students. For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10. Student Led Conferences
On Wednesday, 25th June 2025, we will be holding our student-led conferences. These take place after you have received your child’s Semester 1 report and provide an opportunity for you and your child to meet with the classroom teacher. This is a pupil-free day (no classes will be running), but your child is expected to attend their conference. If you require care for your child on the day, Team Kids will be operating. Why are they called student-led conferences? The students will lead the start of the conference, showcasing their learning from Semester 1. Students in the junior grades (up to Grade 3/4) will use the Seesaw app to share their learning journey across a range of curriculum areas. Students in Grades 5/6 will use Google Classroom to present their learning. Will I get a chance to talk with my child’s teacher about how they are going? Yes. Once your child has shared their learning, you will have an opportunity to discuss their progress with the teacher. Please be mindful that your child will be present, so keep the conversation focused on celebrating their achievements and identifying future goals. Students will walk away feeling more confident if the focus is on their strengths rather than their weaknesses. How long does the conference go for? The conference lasts for 15 minutes. The student component will take approximately 5-7 minutes, with the remaining time allocated for discussion with the classroom teacher. We ask that you respect the short time frame, as delays can have a flow-on effect. For example, some families have back-to-back appointments with other teachers, and we don’t want anyone to miss their time slot. It may also impact the teacher’s ability to take a toilet or lunch break. If you feel more time is needed, please arrange an alternative time with the teacher to continue the conversation. Can I speak with the specialist teachers? Yes. Specialist teachers will not be taking bookings, but they will be available in the library for drop-in visits. You are not required to meet with them, but they will be available if you have any questions. How do I book a time with the classroom teacher? Bookings will be available via the Compass app from Wednesday 4thJune 2025. If you have any trouble booking, please contact the office. While we are unable to book times for parents, we are always happy to help you navigate the booking function on the app. Upcoming Open Streets Event Thursday June 26th – Supported by Dr Cranky

SPECIALISTS
Japanese
In Japanese, the grade 3/4 students have been enjoying the classic folktale The Big Turnip (大い かぶ). Through this story, they have been learning and practising vocabulary such as animal names, family member terms, and simple repetitive language structures in Japanese. Next week, students will put their creativity into action by developing their own “big” stories. They will invent new characters and objects to “pull,” using the language they've been learning to create and read their original versions of the tale—all in Japanese! I’m excited to see the wonderful stories they’ll create! Performing Arts
Dance Club continues to be the Friday lunchtime highlight for many of our students! Our four Performing Arts Captains are organised and ready for 30 minutes of non-stop dance to have students in all year levels ready to get active and enjoy the moves. Performing Arts Captains also hand out certificates for great dancing so come and join in the fun at Friday lunchtime, second half of lunch!
A shout out to our Performing Arts Captains Ava, Frankie, Jasmine and Indie for your enthusiasm each week at this popular student-led club! Visual Arts - Art Show

On the night, there will be plenty to enjoy including a sausage sizzle, refreshments, and a variety of raffles and silent auctions. We’re very excited to announce that some of the amazing items up for auction include:
Students have already begun working on their incredible artworks and are buzzing with excitement to share them with you at the Art Show.
