Building a Positive Community: Our New SWPBS Behaviour Matrix
Picture
This year, Oak Park Primary School is proud to officially launch our updated Behaviour Matrix - a key pillar of our School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) program. This roadmap for success has been designed to provide clear, consistent expectations across all areas of the school, ensuring every student knows how to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

Why a Matrix?
At its heart, the SWPBS program is about moving away from reactive discipline and toward proactive teaching. By clearly defining what "Respect" looks like during lunchtime or what "Responsibility" looks like during independent learning, we create a safe, predictable environment. This structure allows our students to focus on what matters most: their learning and their friendships.

A Collaborative Effort
This matrix is the result of consultation with our Wellbeing Community of Practice and, most importantly, our students. By involving our young leaders in the process, we have ensured the language and expectations are meaningful, relevant, and grounded in our core school values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience.

Designed for Everyone
We are committed to being an inclusive community. To ensure our messages reach every learner, the matrix features a combination of original student artwork and Boardmaker symbols. These visual cues are essential for supporting our pre-readers and neurodivergent students, providing a predictable structure that reduces anxiety and promotes independence. Whether a student is in the Yard, the Wellbeing Hub, or the Classroom, they have a visual guide to help them make positive choices.

We encourage families to take a look at the new matrix (displayed in every classroom) and use the same language at home. Together, we are building a community where positive behaviour is noticed, celebrated and sustained.

2026 Voluntary Financial Contributions – Thank You and Reminder
As we settle into the rhythm of the new school year, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to the many families who have already made their voluntary financial curriculum contributions for 2026. Your generosity plays a vital role in ensuring we can provide the best possible learning environment for our students.

How Your Contributions Make a Difference
While the school receives government funding for standard instruction, your voluntary contributions allow us to go above and beyond. At Oak Park Primary School, these funds specifically support:
  • Enhanced Digital Learning: Providing up-to-date technology and digital resources for our students, as well as a full-time technician on-site.
  • Specialised Curriculum Experiences: Enabling a wider offering of subjects and hands-on learning opportunities.
  • Wellbeing Space and Playground Upgrades: Your support has recently allowed us to upgrade our dedicated wellbeing spaces and new senior playground.
  • Essential Classroom Materials: Supplying the high-quality items and activities necessary for students to fully engage with the Victorian Curriculum.

How to Contribute
If you haven't yet had a chance to contribute and would like to do so, payments can be made easily via:
  • Compass: Navigate to the 'Course Confirmation/School Payments' tab.
  • EFT: Please contact the office for our direct deposit details.

If you require any assistance with the payment process or would like to discuss a confidential financial hardship arrangement, please do not hesitate to call our school office at 03 9306 9182.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support of our school and our students' educational journeys.

Kind regards,

Michael Gill
Principal

No Hat/ No Play
Oak Park Primary School is a Sun Smart school, therefore all students are required to wear a hat at recess, lunchtime and at all times when outside. Students who do not bring a hat to school must sit in the shade.
Bucket hats are the correct type of hat for students to wear as these cover the face, neck and ears.
Bucket hats are for sale from the Office for $10 each.
CSEF Application
Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) - 2026
The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) helps eligible families cover the cost of school camps, sports activities, excursions and incursions, so that financial circumstances are not a barrier to student participation.

What is CSEF?
CSEF is provided by the Victorian Department of Education to support eligible families at both government and non-government schools. Payments are made directly to schools, not to families.
New payment amounts
Payment amounts for eligible families have increased this year:
  • $400 for primary school students
This is an increase from the previous amounts in previous years.

Applying for CSEF
  • Families who received CSEF last year do not need to complete a new application form, These families only need to provide the school with a copy of their current Health Care Card.
  • Families applying for the first time will need to complete a CSEF application form (attached to this post or via school office)
  • Application forms and information sheets (available in many languages) can be accessed through the school.
How schools support families
  • Schools must let families know that CSEF is available.
  • Schools are responsible for processing all applications by 3 July 2026.
  • Schools must use CSEF funds only for the benefit of eligible students.
  • Families must agree before the school allocates CSEF funds. The funds remain as a credit on the family account until families advise how they want them used.
How CSEF can be used
CSEF payments can be used for school-organised activities such as:
  • School camps and trips
  • Sporting programs (including swimming and outdoor education)
  • Excursions and incursions (as defined in the Parent Payments policy)
  • Graduation or valedictory events

Families with more than one child at the same school can combine (pool) their CSEF to use for one child or a specific activity (such as a camp).

How CSEF funds are managed
  • Funds can be used for the eligible student or their siblings at the same school.
  • For students over 16, funds can only be used for that student.
  • If a student leaves the Victorian school system (for example, to attend TAFE or university) and funds remain, they may be used for a sibling at the same school.
  • If there are no siblings at the school, remaining funds may be used to support other students at the school.

Important eligibility notes
  • Home-schooled students are not eligible for CSEF.
  • Schools must hold CSEF funds for 12 months if a student begins home-schooling or leaves school before completing Year 12, in case they return.
  • If the student does not return after 12 months, the school may use the funds to assist other students.

Additional support
  • Prep and Year 7 students in government schools who receive CSEF may also be eligible for help with school uniforms through State Schools’ Relief.

What CSEF cannot be used for
CSEF cannot be used to pay for:
  • Books or stationery
  • School uniforms
  • Before or after school care
  • Classroom or homework materials
  • Social events (such as formals, discos, debutant balls or end-of-year functions)
  • Any costs not related to camps, sports or excursions

Visitors to the School
ALL visitors to the school MUST enter via the front office and sign in via the Compass Kiosk.
This is not required when dropping your children off prior to 9am or picking them up after school at 3.30pm.
We are finding that we have family members/friends entering the school via the back gates just to drop in and talk to their child during school times and lunch/recess.  Please do not do this unless you have entered via the front office and spoken to the staff.  Thank you for your consideration.
Working with Children Check
All visitors and helpers to the school are required to have a current working with children check, and a copy must be given to the front office.
If you have recently updated your card, please ensure a copy is forwarded to the office either via email, or shown at the office.
If your card has expired, you are unable to be a volunteer/helper within the school until you have re-applied.

All visitors signing in, must input their Working with Children Check number on the Compass kiosk.

Physical Education
Over the past few weeks in Physical Education, students across all year levels have been building strong foundations in safety, movement and teamwork.
Our Foundation students have been learning how to move safely within the gym space, identifying boundaries and developing confidence through fun movement games.
In Years 1–4, students have been refining their fundamental motor skills, including throwing, catching and spatial awareness activities.
In Years 5–6, students have begun applying these skills in modified games that focus on communication, decision-making and teamwork. It has been fantastic to see students demonstrating safe practices, positive sportsmanship and enthusiasm in every lesson.

Visual Arts
Meet Ken and Emily, the Visual Arts Captains for 2026. Ken says this about why he is a good choice for this year’s Art Captain – “In my opinion being an art captain is my thing. I have a passion for art and I love it too! I’m creative, smart and happy. I also have a good attitude which makes this role fit me best.”
Emily says – “I’m a really good artist and I never miss an art class. I usually have some spare time at lunchtime so I can help out. I’m kind and outgoing and I love to help people with art activities.”
Emily and Ken have been a welcomed addition to the Visual Arts Program. They have eagerly arrived each lunchtime to assist with getting organised for a creative and fun filled year. I look forward to working with our new captains to provide an enjoyable experience for all students at the school.
