Illness in the Community – Reminders & Medication Policy

We have seen a noticeable increase in student and staff illness across the school this term. The flu, alongside other seasonal winter bugs, continues to circulate within our community.

To help keep our classrooms safe and operational, the school is maintaining our standard health protocols - including an emphasis on regular hand hygiene, continuous air purification and ventilation, and proper respiratory etiquette (coughing into elbows and disposing of tissues immediately).

We have recently observed instances of students being sent to school carrying paracetamol or ibuprofen to self-administer throughout the day. Please note that students are not permitted to carry or self-administer any form of medication at school.

We ask that all families remain vigilant at home and keep students at home if they show any signs of illness. Students who become unwell during the school day will be cared for in the sick bay and parents will be contacted to collect them.

Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation in keeping our school community safe and healthy.

Student Uniform Policy Review – Community Survey
School Council is currently reviewing our Student Uniform Policy to ensure it continues to reflect the needs and expectations of our current school community.

The implementation of our uniform policy plays an important role in enhancing student safety, supporting group security, and helping our students foster a strong sense of collective identity and pride in our school. While there are no plans to change our school colours, uniform supplier, or the affordability of our items, we are keen to gather your feedback on how the policy is set out and implemented day-to-day.

As part of our commitment to keeping school wear accessible, we will also continue to support and encourage families to source plain, unbranded navy items for shorts, trackpants, and leggings from local retailers.

We value your input in shaping our school guidelines. Please take a few minutes to complete our brief survey. We’ll seek responses until the beginning of Term 4. Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.

Dress Rehearsal Excursion
There will be a full dress rehearsal during school time on the first day of the school concert, Tuesday 15th September. All grades will catch a bus to the Clocktower Theatre and rehearse in full costume on the stage. It is crucial that all students attend this full dress rehearsal which will help the production run smoothly. All students to be picked up from school at 3:30pm as usual.

Concert DVD/USB Available to purchase
We strongly recommend families order a DVD of the concert. Students LOVE to watch the show over and over with family and friends. It’s a wonderful keepsake and also great to have a copy of the show for family members who can’t attend concert nights. There is also the bonus of the staff video on the DVD which is always popular with the students-  hilarious!
DVD/USB orders will be given to all families on Tuesday 1st September.

We have the help of our talented parent and t-shirt printing extraordinaire Phil Callaghan to help us create some Shrek merch for students and families. Grade 1 and 2 Inquiry – Stormwater Story incursion
As part of our Inquiry learning in Mapping Our Place, our Grade 1 and 2 students have been exploring our local community and developing a deeper understanding of the places and environments that surround us.

This term, students took part in the Stormwater Story incursion, facilitated by the Merri Creek Management Committee.  Students explored how people interact with the environment and had an opportunity to add different types of pollution to a bowl of water representing the creek, including grass clippings and oil. This helped them see how everyday human activities can affect the health and quality of our waterways.

Students were also shown a map of the local region, helping them understand the connection between the Merri Creek and the places where they live and learn. They discovered that what happens in our local streets, parks and neighbourhoods can ultimately have an impact on the creek.

Students finished the incursion with a greater appreciation of their responsibility to care for our local environment and a commitment to making choices that help keep our waterways clean.

Many thanks to Julia from the Merri Creek Management Committee for facilitating this wonderful incursion and helping our students make meaningful connections between their learning and the local environment.
